Music Lovers: New Santana Album Is Awesome!
 

When I heard the best lineup of Santana was re-uniting for another record 45 years after their last one - that's right, 45 YEARS - I had to pick it up. Just finished listening to the 16 tracks and the verdict is in: brilliant.

OK, not quite as much fire as their last effort, the masterpiece Santana III released in 1971, but damn close. At least they're trying to rock, and the old geezers do it incredibly well! The rhythms, the latin feel, Greg Rolie's vocals (finally!), and the pairing of Carlos Santana with Neil Schon once again is incredible. Seriously, this shit is trippy and it ROCKS.

Check it out: Santana IV. My favorite record of the year. I am cranking it now with the windows open! I live in el barrio so I'm sure the chicas are diggin' it, too.

which song should i play first?

For a short killer rocker listen to the second song, "Shake It". For a trippier thing listen to the amazing "Fillmore East" (over 7 mins long).

I lead a Santana-free lifestyle.

Usually when a classic rocker tries sounding like how they used to sound when they were young it doesn't come off well. A+ for effort but the results are less than electric. But with this record you can almost imagine it coming out in 1972! Sweet. :)
