After years of alleged bullying, an Ohio teen killed herself
Is her school district responsible?
Growing up, Emilie Olsen had an infectious smile, a love for horses and a perfect attendance record. She was a straight-A student and an excellent volleyball player. Emilie ?had an extremely sweet spirit about her,? a family friend recalled. On Dec. 11, 2014, the 13-year-old shot and killed herself at home. It was a tragedy that sent a jolt through Fairfield, Ohio, where Emilie had lived since her parents, Marc and Cindy Olsen, adopted her from China when she was 9-months-old. Classmates and neighbors mourned a young life cut short. But in the days following Emilie?s death, her parents spoke out against the seeming suddenness of it all. Emilie?s death was precipitated by cruel, relentless bullying, the Olsens said. Worse: It could have been prevented, they claimed, if officials at Fairfield Intermediate and Middle School had been more responsive. Emilie did not have to die, they said. These were the allegations made in an 82-page federal lawsuit the Olsens filed against Fairfield City School District, various administrators and Emilie?s alleged bullies last December. Since then, their fight to hold the school district accountable for their daughter?s death has been met with support from parents and denials from school officials. Former Fairfield City Schools superintendent Paul Otten, who is among the defendants named in the complaint, left his position last month to become the superintendent of the nearby Beavercreek City School District. Just last week, Fairfield Middle School Principal Lincoln Butts, also a defendant, resigned for ?personal reasons.? Neither administrator gave specific explanations for leaving. In response to the lawsuit?s December filing, the school district said in a statement, according to WCPO: ?The District will be defending the litigation and will be providing appropriate responses in the course of the litigation. The District has no further comment at this time regarding this pending matter.? Meanwhile, the lawsuit alleges that Emilie suffered discrimination because of her race and perceived sexual orientation and that school officials were negligent in their handling of her bullying. The complaint details a downward spiral brought on by unabating abuse. Neither administrator gave specific explanations for leaving. Excessive harassment or verbal abuse of a single member, will be grounds for a warning. Inciting others to harass or verbally abuse a member will also generate the same warning. Repeated violation after warning will result in the ban hammer! |

Back in my day if you were bullied you simply had it out in the school yard with a fight or simply put on your big kid pants and realized it was a part of life and created your own small group of friends. Now kids kill themselves and do other irrational things.
I feel sorry for the teen that they couldn't realize that life can be better if you try |
Fuck do we need to know about every death in the world. Seriously?
How about some positive news? |
A real shame kids think suicide is the only answer

Ask Hilltop ads if they can pay you to write business related threads/posts.
I don't mean to be mean, but your posts are the reason why I'm not around here as much anymore.. They fucking bum me out and I don't want to think about that kind of shit when I'm working. Who's benefiting from all of these news stories that no one wants to know about? |

Some kids are more sensitive and will get a deep cut when other kids in group or solo harass and bullies. I think this is an awful story but in the end it's the responsibility of the school to deal with this.
The kids that cant behave force them to a program or to a different school and if it's a group split them up. It hurts even more to read that this girl was doing great in school and some primitive kids with possible parenting problems set stop to everything. If a 13 year old kid A-student makes the decision to kill him/her self then it's bad really bad. I'm sure these kids have told her she's a worthless piece of shit on a daily basis. It needs to stop and school needs to take hard actions to deal with it. |
don't be a little bitch :winkwink:

What I'm saying is, everyone feels like high school is his entire life. Now that you're older, four years feels like nothing. |

I personally never got bullied. Think back then though if ya had a beef ya settled that shit there and that was the end of it. Today since kids are addicted to social media shit guess if ya are getting bullied shit doesn't stop when the school day is over. :2 cents:

this blaming society horseshit, the constant whining of the left wing victim class, is why this country is going in the shitter. so the school is responsible for the actions of other children, & the parents of the deceased, who left a gun accessible to a troubled child.
this is why trump will win. everytime he offends the left, his poll numbers go up. :2 cents: |
I never understood why bullied children do not get a knife and sucker stab the bully in the balls and then open the bully up every now and again just for amusement...this victim mentality will always remain a mystery to me...

How in the FUCK does a 13 year old CHILD have access to a gun?
Whoever placed the gun in the house making it accessible to a child should be put in jail!! These fucking gun slinging assholes always say the same thing "Oh, da gun it be locked up, dun't know howz my kidz gotts to it?" Fuck you parents for keeping a gun in the house and the kids have knowledge of it's location. Kids will always get picked on, etc... but having a gun nearby will only seal the deal. I hope the parents that owned the gun BURN IN FUCKING HELL. The lawsuit is just to keep the focus off the fact that the parents provided the means for the suicide. Why take responsibility when you can blame the mudslinging kids for her death. |
