Did you serve in the military ? (any country)

I'll get it right this time. I promise.

Yes I did and it was the best thing I could do, it was an experience of a lifetime, you mature and very quickly start to see things a little more different. It was good for me and I wish more could do it cause of different reasons including friendship and the bond you create with others. Oh and I got to shot things! Awesome!

Just in video games

SilentKnight 05-25-2016 03:33 PM

Canadian Forces - artillery.

Regular forces...not reserves.

I did 25 years in the U.S. Army, did the Jump school thing, assigned to Ft bragg, served in Vietnam as a Company Commander during the enemy Tet Offensive, was stationed in Berlin while the Wall was up, served four years on the Staff and faculty at West Point; spent 4 years on assignment in Saudi Arabia, earned a Bronze Star, and retired as Lt. Colonel.

az365 05-26-2016 07:27 AM

Yes. The army is discipline of the self. Russia.

Andreweb 05-26-2016 07:37 AM

No I didn't ! The army is not for me !

teg0 05-26-2016 08:04 AM

ContentBay 05-26-2016 10:02 AM

Yup, mechanised infantry IFVs.
But as cool as it sounds it was mostly fucking around our superiors and ditching the camp...but still a great experience all in all.

just a punk 05-26-2016 10:53 AM

Voted now :)

JesseQuinn 05-26-2016 10:58 AM

no. not sure I could live with myself if I ever had to physically harm or kill another human being, whatever the reason. I'd prob come home and drink myself to death through inability to cope with the guilt. being serious, not trolling.

let alone fighting for a 'country', which is a bullshit construct to me.

have two military peeps in my family. only one who saw active service was my grandfather, in WWI. He had kids really late, was in his mid 80's when I was a child. never talked about it even to his own kids, certainly not to me though I remember asking him.

don't blame him.

nuff respect to those of y'all who have served. include the families of serving military peeps in that as well, can't fathom the hell they must go through, waiting for their loved ones to come home.

romeo22 05-26-2016 11:51 AM

sarettah 05-27-2016 09:18 AM

I feel the same. I was heading down the wrong path in life, had dropped out of high school, was working crappy dead end jobs... The Marine Corps gave me motivation and focus. It was the best thing I ever did.

The general public - at least here in the United States - think the military is all about making war. It is so much more than that. In many respects it's very similar to college - it takes young men (and women) and gives them a world of education, the kind of education you will never get in college.

My brother in law's British army, a tanky like my grandfather & my partners grandfathers both served in the Navy & Army. I've not served in the forces, although, if needed, would be very happy to step up.

RIP to all those passed & well done to those still serving :2 cents:

transbetty 05-27-2016 03:07 PM

Yes. UN army base in my country.

pimpmaster9000 05-27-2016 04:28 PM

war is basically the middle and lower classes fighting for the interests of the higher classes...so no I dodged the mandatory 1 year training fuck that LOL...
