If someone says they want 18k for a domain. What do you think their rock bottom is?

Stupid question I know. I thought I would get some good responses.

do a reverse whois and see what other domain names he has, based on this you will see the quality of his portfolio and you will get a better picture of how motivated he is to sell...

I see his is a pro investor by the email you sent me, his sales page is kinda well thought out and I do not think he is in a hurry to sell...this does not mean that 18K is his final price but I do not think he will give it under 12-14K depends on how much HE values the domain in his mind...

offer $5k to start with and see what he will say.

also if domain is $18k i guess it's a profitable niche...

Why is that name worth than much?

Branding value for a site idea or speculative traffic value to you? Probably you wont get both. You could have to spend $250K to establish a brand's top of mind recognition -- unless, you also have some great speculative viral action in mind.

How much can you afford to lose? That's your price ...
