Should have been much easier but good bet all the same. Was gonna put £226 on the treble today of Croatia, Poland and Germany to give a clear £1000 profit. Wish i just did it now. Ah well still a win so.....Might bet Poland HT/FT

Croatia look the best up to now

Paul Markham 06-13-2016 09:56 AM

Watched Spain v Czech. Spain was unable to fool a resolute defence of an average team. Until the last minute. If Fabregas hadn't been there to clear the ball off the line. They could well have lost.

The cup might be won by a side who can beat 10 men defences hoping to score a fluke goal. So far it's not been too exciting.

romeo22 06-13-2016 11:06 AM

Too bad Swedan didnt win the game. They made so many created chances but Zlatan didnt have luck to score today

As we all know first game of the first stage is way too early to tell, many teams try to reach their peak later.
Not to mention that due to the new system even third place in the group may advance you, so even more sense for biggest teams try to reach their peak later.

Paul Markham 06-13-2016 12:52 PM

Italy shows everyone how to beat packed defences. While the BNelgium defence is expecting 20 passes before the ball reaches them. A long ball into the box undoes them.

Defences have to get that right every time, the attack only need it to work once.

mineistaken 06-13-2016 01:52 PM

Azzurri 2:0 :thumbsup

Ross 06-13-2016 02:04 PM

So far I'm gonna have to say that no one is lighting it up.

Germany in the end won comfortably but their defence at times was shocking.
England are terrible, they can't finish teams off and they look a bit slow in midfield.
Spain are showing they can keep the ball away from the opposition as always but they lack a world class striker right now and it's showing
France won with a great goal from Payet but other than that they looked ordinary but a lot more to come from them.

Portugal are up tomorrow, I think this could be the game where the real tournament kicks off and see see a few goals.

Pretty much agree with that. The only player to stand out so far is Payet, he was doing the unexpected.

Belgium had a good share of the game tonight, Italy won with an unexpected long ball. These will always fool defences trained to expect slow build ups.

England had the teams best goal scorer taking corners, something he is clearly crap at. Rooney kept playing the ball to wide players who did little. Most shots came from outside the box and through a packed defence so straight at the goalkeeper.

Spain just managed to beat a mundane Czech side. Italy beat Belgium by one out of the ordinary long ball. Can Ronaldo turn it on for an International competition or be swallowed up by a packed defence?

I honestly think Hodgsons insistence on fitting Rooney into the team no matter what is gonna come back to haunt him. You have Vardy on the bench whos just won the league with Leicester and banged in 24 goals. Be bold and play Vardy and Kane up front together and drop Rooney for the next game

Yeah I agree with that one mate, Rooney is past his prime IMO. He still has a lot to contribute but sacrificing a guy with real pace and riding on a high, is a bad decision. Vardy is the perfect compliment to Harry Kane, knock the ball up and let Kane win the headers, get Vardy sitting on the shoulder of the last defender, he only needs one chance and it's most likely a goal. Rooney is trying to play too much like Paul Scholes played for England, spraying passes around the middle, over the top and out wide. Difference is, Scholes had guys like Lampard, Gerard, Beckham, Shearer to aim at and keep things flowing, Rooney isn't accurate enough to be playing that role.

I'll be interested to see where Mourinho plays him next season for Man U. If they bring in a couple of big players, I can see him being a bit part player.

For a neautral like me, yeah it kinda does. Don't misunderstand, I love it regardless but I like to see games with 4+ goals as well. It's always nice to watch in a bar with a nice cold beer :thumbsup

mineistaken 06-14-2016 01:53 PM

Big respect to Iceland! Country of only 400-500K or so. Plus I have not seen any/many foreigners playing for them both based on looks or names (that is very unusual in comparison to other Nordic and even not so Nordic countries).

BIG RESPECT.

I have not watch it, but I assume Hungary also did not have much help by foreigners (as opposed to Austria where every second name does not sound Austrian).
Fair play VS additional help by foreigners. Always nice to see fair play team winning.
Respect to Hungary as well :thumbsup

Paul Markham 06-14-2016 01:56 PM

Portugal 1 - 1 Iceland.

Great game, best so far. Iceland weren't scared, didn't hide and played the game with heart. If not skill.

Had me on the edge of my seat, especially the last 10 minutes.

In case of Hungary many names sounded of German origin lol

For me it is not about the number of goals, but about the "tension" of the game.
Of course, in terms of watching in a bar, after few beers, the tension part becomes irrelevant, then only goals are most fun :)

Heya! That account was handled by a colleague of mine, has scary old sig, but after we got drunk in the office yesterday watching the game together they wanted to make a post in this thread, and I just did not want post this with my own profile LOL :) My guys are reading a lot @ gfy, I usually send the important+funny threads over.

This win was a huge surprise for the entire country, our team member's overrall 'value' is the lowest by far in the entire championship.. We WERE a football nation, but not anymore, and these things make the whole country happy happy :)

I personally don't really believe in us making it too far here, but this game was definitely nice and the result is well-deserved!! :) :2 cents: :pimp :thumbsup

The last 20 minutes of Iceland v Portugal was fantastic. In fact, after 30 minutes when it was clear Iceland weren't going to be swamped I was wound up like a spring hoping they would score. Woke the dogs when the did and when they got the draw, with my whooping for joy.

Did you read Ronaldo bitch about the defensive play of Iceland? He will have a lot more to bitch about and the tournament continues.

France 1 & 3+
Romania pure winner

Germany looks every strong on the Euro. Wondering if there is any other country to stop them to win

mineistaken 06-15-2016 01:51 PM

French and African alliance got lucky during the last minutes once again!

Paul Markham 06-15-2016 02:01 PM

Another lousy performance by the forwards.

France deserved to win but need to find ways through packed defences.

Paul Markham 06-16-2016 07:00 AM

England 0 Wales 1 and no surprise.

England need to attack and put the back four and goalkeeper under pressure. Sterling has to come off, Varney on, Rooney further up field and find someone who can take a corner so Rooney is in the box.

Substitute Jamie Vardy makes it 1-1 so far :)
