Doesn't say IED, says likely they were setting off illegal fireworks.

"Preliminary investigation suggests the explosion was an "experiment with fireworks or homemade explosives," NYPD Deputy Chief John O'Connell said at a news conference Sunday afternoon."

dyna mo 07-03-2016 06:53 PM

I stand corrected, it looks like the guy did step on a homemade bomb that had been there a while, wow, unreal.

I feel for that guy.

lagwagon 07-03-2016 07:43 PM

wow poor kid....

Hannes 07-03-2016 07:45 PM

"fireworks or homemade experiment" learn from this that you have to be careful with bombs. If not, well you'll lose your foot.

freecartoonporn 07-03-2016 07:59 PM

land mines in central park, great.

Drake 07-03-2016 08:08 PM

Brutal. Poor guy.

Dvae 07-03-2016 08:28 PM

The 'shoe bomber' strikes again!

Spunky 07-03-2016 09:19 PM

Damn freaks planting explosive devices in the park again.poor guy

JamesM83 07-03-2016 09:25 PM

Reports say it was an "extremely powerful homemade firework", which is pretty believeable considering he only lost his foot lol

MiamiBoyz 07-03-2016 10:00 PM

Only 1 foot? Why is this even news?

Slow news day I guess...

Yeah, cuz IED's are so commonplace in Central Park.

Google Expert 07-04-2016 04:24 AM

probably one of the Youtube "prank" idiots filming a new viral video

oops

blackmonsters 07-04-2016 06:19 AM

Seems illegal to make the device and leave it there.

Settle down. At that time the news was reporting his firecracker blew up and I even came back in this very thread and corrected myself after the news did, you conveniently waxed past that post of mine so you can name call.

ilnjscb 07-04-2016 07:43 AM

Now they're saying it was someone "practicing".

The perpetrator is just an "explosive hobbyist" who just happened to go to Central Park to sit with his bomb on a nice day, and happened to accidentally leave his bomb, then he innocently forgot his name so he couldn't report himself.

"?We believe this could have been put here as some sort of experiment,? NYPD Inspector John O?Connell said "

So no worries people - it wasn't terrorism and the folks we are paying trillions of dollars to for protection are well worth it!

Officials believe blast that injured man in New York's Central Park was an 'experiment'

If it was an IED I'm glad they're playing it down. The media gives too much attention to isis and their wanna be's.

I don't think it was an IED because those are buried with a triggering device and blow multiple people into pieces & flip over tanks. However, this incident will give wannabe's a recipe for a low profile, easy to make portable chemical mixture that can blow feet off.

Barry-xlovecam 07-04-2016 10:40 AM

Better than a suicide belt -- most worrisome ...

This whole story reeks - sounds as if there's more to it than meets the eye.

The ones YOU read/hear about do that in war zones, but an IED is an Improvised Explosive Device; it doesn't have to be able to flip a tank to qualify.

^^^ Agreed. Blowing someone's foot off is pretty good psychological warfare. I was in the park today and I did worry about it.

Joshua G 07-04-2016 06:15 PM

cops are downplaying public danger bec they believe the kid blew up his own foot.

:2 cents:

Coup 07-05-2016 12:19 AM

I guess you could say his trip to New York got off on the wrong foot.

that is definitely very strange

JesseQuinn 07-05-2016 01:23 AM

^^^:1orglaugh

for real though, 10's of thousands of peeps are maimed and killed by this ish every year. It's a tragedy every time it occurs and a testament to who we are as a species that

a) we create this misery in the first place

b) only care when it's 'unusual' in occurrence (aka white/middle class/in an area presumed 'safe' from the havoc we wreak upon each other on the daily

feel really bad for the dude though. the fact that this happens every day doesn't negate the pain he's going through

question: if I put 'explosives hobbyist' on my resume think it would turn peeps off?

aside from Miamiboyz who would see that as an asset I would guess

kinda reminds me of old solid fuel cells used for cooking/shit with military?

edit: an MRE bomb? seriously? that picture isn't connected to this whole thing.. where did you read that?

this is the caption with that picture:

'A couple soldiers once explained to me how to make a hydrogen-based "MRE bomb" with the heating packets inside the Meals Ready To Eat. At the party, we tried four different times to make an MRE bomb, using a giant sparkler to set off the last one. We produced one slightly satisfying result, but didn't get the super Hindenberg-like explosion that we were hoping for.'

Heater pack aka FRH, comes in your MRE if you're lucky

If you could delete your edit that would be wise. I was purposely being vague. There are some not good people here you know.
