This New Pokemon Go Thing Is Going Nuts...

Pokemon Go is a monster mobile hit - BBC News

Quote:

Pokemon Go has already been installed on a phenomenal 5.16% of all Android smartphones in the US, according to SimilarWeb, an app analytics firm.
For context, that's more installs than dating app Tinder. Almost double, in fact.
SimilarWeb estimates that by the end of the week on Android, Pokemon Go will have more active users than Twitter. Twitter!
Virtual strippers on every corner anyone?....

crockett 07-11-2016 04:39 AM

I dunno what the game is about, but I saw some kids playing it yesterday on their phones.. seems you have to run around and find or catch stuff using the gps..

These kids were playing it at a gas station/burger King running around in and out of the store. My first thought is this will end in a massive lawsuit when some kids get killed in traffic..

wehateporn 07-11-2016 04:45 AM

Took them out around the neighborhood to play this yesterday, was a good excuse to get some fresh air and exercise

Naughty 07-11-2016 04:57 AM

Where can we promote this app, anybody know?
Like PPI?

CaptainHowdy 07-11-2016 05:04 AM

Kids are raving about it ...

Bladewire 07-11-2016 05:17 AM

When kids realize there is a Pokemon Go Plus techwear bracelet coming out this month the pre orders will be through the roof and we'll have a new visible nerd badge of honor :1orglaugh

It communicates with your phone via Bluetooth so when you're walking with your phone in your pocket the bracelet lights up and vibrates, telling you there's a Pokemon close so you can get your phone out open the app and catch it! Or you can catch It with the bracelet, It tells you other stuff too.

As embarrassing is this is to admit, Im going to Japan in a month with an old friend. We both plan on using Pokemon Go as our tour guide.

Konda 07-11-2016 11:21 AM

This thing is HUGE, it's only released in a few countries and already has millions of downloads and already surpassing twitter in daily active users on Android

48 hours after launch it was installed in 5.6% of all android phones in the US (already more than Tinder)

'Pokémon GO' Is About To Surpass Twitter In Daily Active Users On Android

This is one of those things that comes around once every couple of years that just blows up like crazy, and will have a huge impact on the future of mobile games and apps

Huge boost for AR !

This game is garbage. If you ever played pokemon on gameboy, it was MUCH better. Much more detailed. But for this game, the servers never work and when they do, the character never moves no matter where you point him. My little cousin showed me it and he is like "It never works". He has android. Maybe its better for iphone? No idea.

BlackCrayon 07-11-2016 11:30 AM

i am really surprised pokemon even still a thing...

CourtneyR 07-11-2016 11:36 AM

I'm sick and tired of hearing about it all day in the office.

cybermike 07-11-2016 12:47 PM

Its all over my fb feed too.. sucks for people who work at home like me lol. Managed to get to lvl 3 on a 3 mile walk.. boring game in the suburbs

How does it work? Do you look through the camera to see them or something? How do you catch them?
How can you use them as tour guides?

Seriously. I know nothing of this?

It integrates with like google maps i guess and puts its own interface over top. Then, pokemon populate on that map, so its a real map of the area you're in. You get alerts of nearby Pokemon, go to the location and use the phone interface to catch 'em! So, it takes you around whatever city you're in, in real life. It's making gamers go outside, which also doubles up as a great tour guide.

I understand how this sounds lame, but as a millennial, I honestly think it's pretty cool. Video game evolution at its finest.

Will it still work in small towns?

Harambe 07-11-2016 03:20 PM

all over twitter

Hannes 07-11-2016 03:22 PM

Yeah, it seems like there's a lot of activity in the highly populated areas. College campuses are littered with "PokeStops" for people to visit.

For real though, this is definitely going to be a traffic hazard. The app still works while driving and I've already seen tons of people just stop on the side of the road to catch something. That's the best case scenario. The worst is when they still try to drive with one hand and catch with the other.

lagwagon 07-11-2016 09:51 PM

looks like people are getting robbed all over the place because of this game, lol criminals are luring people to spots and then jacking them. Some kids getting caught by creepers too :(

Speigelau 07-11-2016 09:57 PM

They even have this for all the lazy players, pokewalk

kane 07-11-2016 10:26 PM

I've seen a few pictures of businesses that have ended up with pokemon located inside their building and they have hung up signs saying the pokemon are for paying customers only because they had a flood of people coming in, getting the pokemon and leaving and doing nothing but disrupt the customers.

Are you saying that in riots they could position pokemon in such a way that when rioters, who are players, were notifed of a close Pikachu they would all unknowingly be lead to disperse away from the crowd with the payoff being a bunch of points or bitcoin in the game for capturing dozens of virtual characters?

Jigster715 07-11-2016 11:22 PM

I just read the servers are being ramped up. New installs will probably not work for a few days.
You can download the app from mirror sites.
Does not work for people in cars.
Its great. All the fatties glued to their idiot boxes can now run around in traffic. Good exercise I guess.
Nintendo's stock shot up 37%. Fuck, I did not buy before.

@kurtov - August is the sweaty month in Japan. Enjoy.

.

Sounds like a recipe for getting run over by a garbage truck.

Google Expert 07-12-2016 06:52 AM

I dont know what it is, but it's been on every news station the last few days. I'm sure this is a big contributing factor to it's popularity (free publicity)

Spunky 07-12-2016 06:53 AM

Just a fad that hopefully fades away soon..getting ridiculous the amount of people almost killed for not paying attention or taking risks for some stupid game

Google Expert 07-12-2016 06:57 AM

Just read the BBC article.

Apparently, blacks are already luring people to secluded areas to rob them :1orglaugh
