Things to do in Detroit ??

Apart from getting shot.

Got a week to 'kill' and looking for some other stuff to do.

Gracias...

Relic 07-11-2016 11:45 AM

There is no apart from getting shot. You go to Detroit, you get shot. It's how it works bro. I suggest visiting the strip clubs around 8 mile.

shake 07-11-2016 11:47 AM

You could buy a few houses just for fun.

Detroit is fucked in fact I'd get the hell out of Michigan entirely. Might I suggest visiting Windsor.

Relic 07-11-2016 11:56 AM

What would I know though Scott, but to say to enjoy your travels. Safely.

Relic 07-11-2016 11:58 AM

The only thing to do in Detroit is not to die.

There is a high probability of dying when in Detroit. Please see above or below. Whatever :)

Relic 07-11-2016 12:15 PM

it's all trouble there.

Colmike9 07-11-2016 12:19 PM

Take a 2 hour drive and hang out with me instead, much less dying involved.

A girl I know went to Detroit to visit her boyfriend (don't ask). She said it was "The Scariest Mothfucking place" she had ever been to.

Barry-xlovecam 07-11-2016 12:32 PM

Yes! Get on Fuck out of Detroit I94 and take a Greyhound bus or rent a car and travel 70 miles due west to Ann Arbor Michigan where the U of M is.

The art fair is very nice

Most parts of Oakland County, Macomb County and St. Clair County are OK to nice. Detroit and a lot of Wayne County are not good areas. Try downtown Northville in Wayne county or downtown Birmingham in Oakland County. These are upper scale suburban areas near Detroit.

Shopping: (not cheap)
Somerset Mall in City of Troy, Oakland County

Twelve Oaks Mall Novi in Oakland county

Or just drive to the nice parts. Going down 8 mile, you can see exactly where the poor part crosses over to the rich part. :upsidedow
(It might have been 9 mile or 12 mile, though, I don't remember which street that was exactly. But it was where I stayed and was surprisingly nice.)

Axeman 07-11-2016 12:45 PM

Detroit Zoo in Royal Oak is nice. Some good food and drinks in Royal Oak as well.

Other good places to visit are the Detroit Institute of Arts, Motown Museum. The Ford Piquette Avenue Plant is pretty cool too. If you like Mexican, then Mexicantown is pretty good.

8 Mile road is the Northern Detroit City limits. Generally speaking, North of 12 Mile Road is the better area, further north of 15 Road is the best area notwithstanding the City of Pontiac -- lower class to ghetto again.

The Detroit Institute of Arts is an exceptional museum when the City of Detroit filed for bankruptcy it was an asset listed at $2 billion -- built with foundation money from the auto magnates in the c.1920's. I haven't visited there in 45 years.

In the downtown Detroit area go to Greektown but be careful, stay out of desolate areas at night:2 cents:

Barry-xlovecam 07-11-2016 01:23 PM

I have never visited a major city in the world that did not have a ghetto. That includes Detroit, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, Atlanta, Houston, Phoenix, London, Paris, Athens ...

Detroit is a city in a much larger Metro Area. It is a war zone in the city now -- I had to go to the passport office in downtown Detroit two years ago -- the area of the federal buildings was safe during business hours but the streets were very quiet -- almost like a zombie movie without the zombies. I was glad to GTFO of Detroit in one piece -- a sad commentary.

I'm just fucking with you Barry. :2 cents: Living in a war zone is what it sounds like. I would know. Who wants to live in Mogadishu.

PR_Glen 07-11-2016 01:24 PM

Barry has it down for the most part. I'm not too worried downtown but i don't wander around there wasted at night either so i avoid any problems that way. Slow's bbq is pretty awesome if you want to try some northern version of southern bbq anyway heh

edit: oh mexican town can be fun too... definitely don't wander off that strip though.

What do they all have in common? And why there is no ghetto in Kiev, Warsaw etc?

mineistaken 07-11-2016 01:45 PM

Just avoid blue plagued areas:

Lol. I anticipated something like that. Ukraine is the poorest European country. You guys think Eastern Europe is poor, so imagine that Ukraine is much more poor, average salary is like 3-5 TIMES smaller than in "poor" Eastern Europe. And maybe 10 TIMES than in some of your named cities. So no surprise there are extremely poor looking blocks there..

It is still NOTHING like ghettos in Detroit or Atlanta, or all of the cities you mentioned.
Your friend lived there and is ok, now imagine him WALKING in the ghetto of Detroit, let alone living... You get the huge difference now? Get the difference between actual ghetto and juts poor part of poor country?

And again, Ukraine is SUPER poor, lets take examples like Warsaw etc.

There are literally no ghettos in Eastern Europe, surely there are blocks and neighborhoods that are cheaper/run down, but you could easily walk there and not be endangered in any sense. They would have slightly higher than average crime rate, but it would be mostly visible in crime stats. While in actual ghetto in Detroit etc the danger would be visible via your own eyes.

Barry-xlovecam 07-11-2016 04:34 PM

Never been to Bucharest?

Even some parts of Prague I have seen.

Riding in a cab from Heathrow to central London looked pretty shabby too. The Piccadilly Circus Underground area looked real good too HAHA. Looked rather slummy to me too.

This is where the Detroit race riots started in 1967 4 https://goo.gl/maps/pCLzqSTzsxw don't let the looks deceive you :2 cents:
