I would spend money on some high quality youtube videos. Installation videos on solar panels and maybe pay some big name handyman youtube character to do videos on your products on your website.

gmail ads work pretty well for me in mainstream...they call it domain targeting, this means ads are shown to users who recieve mail from specific domains (the competition)...facebook has this too they call it custom audiences I think...also twitter...but I have not used facebook or twitter for this yet, but its the same principle and costs less than standard ads...

invest in a good tracker, spy on what other people are doing, run the ad for a week withou t touching it. Then tweak everthing.
