Is 4k now the norm? Hi def seems soooo old.
 

I have been shooting for a while in 4k.

Hi def now seems such an old format.

I am not an expert, but from what I can see, it looks like it's still too early to say that it is a norm. It sure will be in a couple of years.

I hope it does better than 3d did :upsidedow

When the Internet bandwidth averages 100/100 Mbps -- 4K is a lot of data to move.

Even though most videos get converted down to reduce the filesize, definetly a good idea to shoot in 4k.

Biggest chunk of commercial stuff I shoot now is full 8K 4320 minimum. Usually downscaled to 4K for output.

From end of the year, beginning of next year it'll be 12K.

3D, VR, 2K, 4K and even 6K ... All for none... Shit content will not sell regardless of the "gadget flavour of the month" shoot something good in std HD and make all the money you need.:thumbsup Shoot shit and get shit in return.

Its just that 4k cameras are now so cheap.

Reason, the image you have shown here has shadow from the lighting, so 4k still won't change your lighting & that model has awful fake boobs & her hair's hanging between them, you could have asked her to part it properly. He also says, she looks gone out with her lips all hanging there, but then, that's knocking the model, not something I usually would do or say, He says, it's a really shit photo!

From me, i'm just agreeing that your lighting is bad, anyway...

Distributing in 4k is not the norm. Shooting in 4k to have more leverage in post production is the norm.

I have said my piece above " shit in, shit out" , regardless how many "K" are you using. You cannot fix bad light,bad sound,bad acting,bad sets,bad wardrobe, bad make up, bad camera moves,bad direction,bad focus or skunky looking talent in the post. With RAW 4K, you can fix and do quite a few of those. Sometimes it's not about fixing something someone didn't plan but doing it for no money.

I just had every tv upgraded to oled 4k's from 1080p leds, 4k rokus, integrated with control 4 and lutron radio ra 2, all ran on a 10gbs cat6a infrastructure. Huge difference thus far. I consider myself a good litmus test because when we went HD it was around 2008 and that was later than most, but I got to see what didnt work such as hd dvd vs bluray. We just bought 2 new cameras as well. A canon 1dx mk2 and a sony pxw e100c and I'm still dicking with it so I can learn it to teach my crew the way "I" want it. I think it will help. I'm still deciding on how I will present the 4k to my customer base. In any case, the 1920x1080p will look better than it does now based on how the pixels are arranged in 4k as your raw file. So, it's a better user experience regardless, even if you shoot in 4k but stay hd. It will be interesting though because I know my fans/customer base well and have 13-14 years of comments and pie charts and other crap I can't make sense of. It will be fun to implement that data into a 4k shooting style. Not to mentiion relaunching some sites that never had the manpower to get off the ground properly despite very promising results at first launch. Who knows, but these next few months will be interesting at duke dollars. I'm also looking to pick up some more directors so anyone who's interested shoot me a pm.
