Majority of available studies fail to demonstrate that flossing generally effective in plaque removal: review

It's one of the most universal recommendations in all of public health: Floss daily to prevent gum disease and cavities. Except there's little proof that flossing works.

I always knew flossing was a fcuking scam :2 cents: GFY Do you floss?

i honestly dont know many adults who floss on the regular...Like the majority I only floss before a dentist's visit most of the time.

I started a few months ago on my dentists recommendation. I do once or twice a day. Whether it works or not, I don't think I care, it feels very nice afterwards. My gums no longer bleed either.

I use interdental brushes daily, those are awesome

I have those type brushing heads in a handle like a toothbrush has. CPS-15

Those look like plugins for a electric toothbrush or a water pik device?
If you don't clean between your teeth they will rot you will also end up with gum disease and irreversible jaw bone loss and your teeth will start getting lose.

CurrentlySober 08-02-2016 09:25 AM

Its no good for me as I no longer have 2 teeth that are both close enough together to floss. I just put the brush in the gap and brush both sides...

I've been using one of those rubber pick things for about 5 years now because I hate flossing. My cleanings previously looked like a horror movie and it was painful as fuck. Now they're easy and quick.

When you see all that gunk on the rubber tip every night....that's the the shit that would be calcifying around your gum line and making dental office cleanings a nightmare.

Those interdental brushes mentioned are pretty good too.

I floss everyday and my dental hygienist would kick me in the sack if I didn't

My gums feel awful if I don't floss. I think it just varies from person to person.

:2 cents:

i think you can have healthy gums if you brush long enough, but flossing does help, and is also where a lot of cavities start. avoiding sugar often seems to help it along as well.

zero cavities.

how u remove the poop?

BlackCrayon 08-02-2016 12:41 PM

every day. it just doesn't feel right if i don't.

Vendot 08-03-2016 01:39 AM

That's rubbish. Flossing is the only way to clean between the teeth and it does a good job of that. I know too many people who don't floss and it's something you should do once every week at the very minimum.

webgurl 08-03-2016 06:01 AM

I only floss maybe few times a year (yep I would say max 5) and my teeth + gums are flawless perfect. I've not got any dental work on them since I was a child. Only get a regular cleaning from a dentist maybe once a year if that. So = must use floss on a regular basis, in my books a mythbuster!

loreen 08-03-2016 08:31 AM

I floss multiple times / day, mainly because I like how my mouth feels afterwards. If your teeth are not very close together, might be possible that it doesn't help much.

I have multiple implants and I need to be rigorous about it :)
