people always say it is nice...but...i doubt i will ever go
|
Don't believe the hype.
Google Dubai decapitated. I'm not sure which is more disturbing, the 25 maids being decapited or 2016 is all time high for decapitation or the video of the on site sanctuned decapitation on the street. |
Don't sell or do drugs there.
|
hype it up!
|
Porn is illegal there. Alcohol is illegal unless you have a permit (which only foreign people who work there can get, tourists and locals can't). Some hotels serve alcohol, but it's your responsibility.
Some prescription drugs could get you in jail too. Be careful and read up if you go. |

I look down on luxury ...

anyone caucasian is out of their minds to go anywhere near the ME. & god forbid you get arrested, for farting, & some stranger thinks you insulted allah.
my advice is to VR dubai, or visit in a video game, or dump some sand in your backyard & make believe. :2 cents: |
I have a couple of friends who live and work there. My female friend loves it, as the tourist industry in Dubai gave her much more opportunity than her own country - plus she doesn't smoke or drink - so she enjoys her life there. My male friend on the other hand, HATES it because he's a partyboy. For him it's get in, make your money and get out, type of situation.
The mosques, beaches and the high rises are certainly beautiful, so have fun :) |
Quick Thought?
I cunt a4d 2 goto Dubai ... :( |

He earns a ton of money (> $200k/yr) so is probably going to A list places. |
Dubai is in my top 3 best trips ever. You do not need a permit to drink alcohol, that is utter bullshit. Only certain places serve it such as hotels and clubs (mostly inside hotels). Don't walk around the streets drunk, if you are planning a night out then be smart and take a taxi back to your hotel, even if it is only 200 metres away. The cops will have your back, they don't want to arrest you and would rather see you get home safe, they will not harrass you or make your life difficult either but if you do try to break the rules then you will be punished. It's not as strict as other Middle East places, women don't need to be covered head to toe unless they are going into a holy place, in which case you can just rent some clothes to wear while you go in.
Dubai is big and certain places are not easy to get to unless you take a taxi (which is fairly cheap anyway). They have a monorail system that is great and cheap but for some tourist spots you can still have a 1-2 mile walk to get there after you get off at the station. Weather is amazing, I went in January and it didn't drop below 30C during the day or 24C at night. Food is amazing, great mix of cheap places and higher end places. The beaches are nice and are surrounded by plenty of things to do if you get bored. Plan your trip wisely before you go, think of everything you want to do first then book your hotel based on where you will spend most of your time. I stayed in Jumeirah beach because we were down that area most but next time I go I will stay in the business district around the Burj Khalifa for better night life and food. |

Perfect for a 3 Day trip

Here are some resources that explain about the alcohol:
Alcoholic Beverages Law in the UAE Alcohol License Dubai In short: - An alcohol license is needed - Tourists cannot get a license - They sell you alcohol in hotels and bars, and don't care if you have a license - Yes there are contradictions and it is a grey area, like with many things in UAE, because they want to be muslim and tourist-friendly at the same time - 99% of the time you will not get in trouble, but there are no assurances Dubai has some nice places, but I prefer countries with real freedom, where I can safely have a beer on the beach, and don't have to worry about getting arrested for some painkillers. Or having sex unmarried, for that matter. (Yes, that is illegal too, although they only arrest the women for it...) |

If i pass by i will do a stop-over. But doesn't look like a place i want to stay longer than 2-3 days.
|
The only picture of that place is of the mushroom cloud above what is left when it's eliminated from the face of the planet and all the Muslim scum who live there.

If you are going in the summer time, you will have to worry about the extreme heat more than anything else.
Like everyone said, drugs are a no no (even prescriptions) they have zero tolerance on drinking and driving Other than that it is all good. My story: In 2005 one of my contacts found me a decent potential job in Dubai. I went there for the interview (was supposed to be a formality). I arrived at the office where I had the interview, decided to smoke a cigarette outside (stopped smoking in 2007) BAD DECISION: I was sweating from all over my suit. It was disgusting. Went to see the interviewer and he asked me the first question: So tell me how is Dubai treating you? you like it here? I told him I am not sure that I can live here :1orglaugh :1orglaugh Was one of the funniest moments in my life |

These little things add up though. You always have to stay low key with things that are just normal at other places. It's not a free atmosphere. Now this was in Qatar not Dubai, but still gives you the idea of the laws in the area: Dutch woman jailed after reporting rape convicted - CNN.com |
If you go with a woman make sure you are married to her.

(1) If you use the monorail, get a GOLD ticket day pass. Its just a couple $ more than the regular one but you can go into the first class cabin and usually have a chance to sit down and not be squeezed in like a sardine amongst labour people. (2) One evening drop into "The Address" which is attached to the Dubai Mall, and head for the amazing bar at the top. (3) Hit the VAULT at the top of the JW Marriot Marquis hotel (Floor 71) - the tallest hotel in the world. The VAULT has an exceptional view of Dubai and a crazy, mad ass vibe. (4) Hit ATMOSPHERE, the bar at the top of the worlds tallest building, the Burj Khalifa. Dubai is the luxury capital of the world. It's amazing but small so I don't think anyone needs more than 5 or 6 days for tourist trip. |

Unless you mean that 30+ is amazing instead of -20, then yeah, for sure, but in general - few degrees too much. I mean just imagine 30+ (so what, 31, 32, 34 etc) and super sunny in Canada or in Scotland. The sentiment from almost anybody you met would be - damn, it is so hot. Etc. |
Ive been there around 8 times (what happens when your girl's family is from there)
Anyway there is a lot of garbage advice on this thread. First of all, lets discuss weather.. Dubai gets super hot in the summer, I mean hotter than arizona and you feel like someone is blowing a hair dryer in your face all day.. I suggest you go in cooler months.. Before you go check a weather average for that month and see if you can handle it.. Ive also been there twice during rainy season and it was crappy and cold and dubai even got flooded that year.. Check https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Climate_of_Dubai and based on your tolerance for heat you can decide when to visit. I prefer winter months myself as it is cool and a light sweat shirt will keep you warm, but ive also gone in the summer where it is nice and you can go to the beach, etc. Secondly, alcohol is served in basically every club/hotel. Lots of clubs are inside the hotels.. Ive actually been drunk there tons of times, lots of fun.. Intercontinental hotel festival city, park hyatt, and grand hyatt are nice hotel choices as well.. Since its your first time, I suggest you go during warmer months and do the following: RENT A CAR( I SUGGEST SIXT car rental from the airport.. They are great and have nice/cheap mercedes C/E class with GPS) Dune Bashing, Dune Buggying, Desert Safari, Burg Khalifa(tallest building in the world), Visit gold souk, visit dubai maill, mall of emirates, go indoor skiing as well, go indoor skydiving, visit the aquarium at the mall.. Just google any of these things and you will learn about it and where to do it.. Basic rules: Dubai is a weird place.. They want the tourists so they want to appear like a liberal city, but deep down just remember you are in the middle east. Dont fuck with any type of drugs, dont buy it, dont take it, dont use it, etc.. You will be fucked.. Dont also drink and drive.. Dont make out with your girl publicly (unless inside a club maybe.. I got yelled at a guy and threatened because my girl was HOLDING MY HANDS at a mall).. Apart from that, remember the locals own the place so dont insult any guy who is a local (you will know because they wear the muslim thingy whatever its called, the dress type of stuff with sandals.. ) Its probably not somewhere I would want to live as there's a lot of human abuse (they bring in cheap asian laborers/maids, pay them peanuts and seize their passports, etc). There's also a big disparity between rich and poor.. A poor indian worker may make $500 a month, while a rich local guy may blow $500 for a parking spot at a night out of town.. Its that crazy, while in the club i saw someone order champaigne worth $500,000 right in front of and it was just him and two russian girls partying.lol There are also a lot of hookers all over the place, and many people there are hypocrites.. They pretend like they are holy but at night they retreat to their villas and snort coke and bang hookers :) Be safe.. ask any questions |
way too many stories outta those areas for me
