Just one of the scary things coming out of DEFCON ....

Nothing Surprises me anymore!

I'm so scared :1orglaugh
Honestly, TV's are being sold right now that watch you, while you're watching TV, and send back data about you to be sold. No public outcry, that scares me. Your Smart TV is Watching You - and It's Not the Only One! |

I think of all those dystopian Sci Fi films where everything you do is monitored all of the time and when you look around you, almost everything you own now can be used for data collection. Your smart phone, smart tv, smart refrigerator, computer, VoIP phone etc etc. So all those old Sci Fi films have come true and we are indeed being treated like rats in a cage. |
Yeah it's creepy & should be illegal.
Don't forget the 10 million Visio TV's sold that track you & mesh other info connecting your IP to market you online & on your phone. Most people don't know Visio TV's do that :disgust |

Screen reading tech has been around for 20 years. There's a secret program name for it. You are way late on this. |
Yea you can find evidence of monitor hijacks going as far back as windows 98, this is not new but it's just getting easier because there are more unsecured networks than ever before.

I feel kinda of bad for people watching my obese body mastrubate

It's been possible to detect what is displayed on a CRT monitor for many years. Back then monitors did not control the display of data using microprocessors within the monitor, they do now and the article refers to contents being read AND modified without any intrusion into the computer at all. I always comb my hair and wear a suit and tie before turning on my TV :cool-smil

So the monitor firmware has been hacked?
A solution as simple as, "the host computer has requested a firmware update, press MENU to authorise this" would have been too much work... get the product to market... |
Please make a General DEFCON thread. This was interesting. Thanks.
