Which Countries To Block?

Looking for a list of the top bad countries or regions to block so they can't signup to my sites. So what countries do you block and why? Which countries give you the most trouble with chargebacks?

Thanks in advance! :thumbsup

plaster 08-16-2016 12:10 PM

Honestly, you, shouldn't block any countries. What you should do is track your chargeback percent per affiliate and block affiliates that have, say, over 5% chargebacks or so. Of course Ccbill does not offer that ability so you will need to custom code it. And you should also custom code a fraud system so you can catch, in real time, affiliate carders. But you can't do that either because Ccbill won't allow it. Basically you are stuck between a rock and a hard place.

So the answer is just don't block any additional countries other then the ones ccbill already does for you.

Never block, redirect to a realistic honeypot, seriously :2 cents:

Well for example I got 3 chargebacks today from one country (China). I didn't even know we were letting China through. LOL They joined in April and charged back all three months. I know CCBill blocks certain countries but it is also possible to specify which countries you would like blocked I believe.

Anyway these were not affiliate CBs. Most of my traffic is type-ins and I don't have any affiliates with outlandish CBs thank goodness. :) But I know India, Pakistan, certain places like that are usually on people's blocked countries list. Maybe they are default. LOL

OneHungLo 08-16-2016 12:40 PM

russia + serbia and any other fuckhole like that :1orglaugh

plaster 08-16-2016 12:56 PM

If just one sale from whatever country doesn't charge back then you are in profit. About the only good thing going for ccbill is they don't charge the $25 fee per chargeback.

If you don't have affiliate fraud concerns... let everything you can through. You really need to be pushing hundreds of NEW sales per week for those pesky little chargebacks to become problematic.

Then again your fate is in ccbill hands so who knows. Maybe they would give you problems if you had 12 chargebacks in a month, lol.

When you block a country you're just letting the thief know to use a proxy. When you block popular proxies you're letting a thief know to use a better proxy.

The situation in the U.S. is particularly dire. The U.S. alone accounts for almost 50 percent of global fraud but only about 21 percent of global payments transactions. Issuers in the U.S. lost nearly $4 billion last year to counterfeit transactions, according to The Nilson Report.

Why is the USA so high on the fraud lists?

More VPNs and Proxies are in the USA -- the fraudsters are not really US persons.

Grey list the VPN IPs then SMS or 3ds all the related transactions -- that is the starting source of most 'serial' chargebacks -- what I call the unchecked transaction syndrome. New customers are also the biggest source of chargebacks I see and that is an easy atavistic for you to see :2 cents:

Blocking countries only loses you sales today. Hardening verification routines on questionable transactions is the way to go.

What SMS service do you use to verify?

I honeypot certain VPN's to a version of my site where I can make money but they can't subscribe. Michigan, Illinois, Florida and others are high on the list of VPN fraud for obvious reasons. Canada, major VPN credit card fraud for obvious reasons as well. :2 cents:

We use different SMS services globally.
I would need to find out -- our processing manager contracts that.
For what continent? SMS is very segmented globally.

There are 173,000 ex pats from Western countries in Shanghai alone. That's a lot of potential customers to block if you block China - and that's only Shanghai.

Don't block any country.

Use appropriate risk management techniques at billing time instead.

Unfortunately Mr. Porn, you can't follow any of his advice because you use CCBill.

Also, 99.99% of your customers are new. He works in cams, people reload their tokens in cams. You have paysites, most customers are new. Grey listing VPN's are going to become increasingly problematic as people using phones and additional gadgets are increasingly becoming more popular making it look more and more like proxies, however, it's just normal people on gadgets.

SMS is a really awful solution, they take so much of the damn money and it doesn't rebill.

And 3d is just such a pain in the ass, and you, running paysites, are relying on the rebills. You can say anything you want about offering a 6 month package or whatever, but you and I both know most of your money comes from rebills. Rebills are not protected from chargebacks regardless if they used 3D to join or not.

So you're back to square one. What to do with countries?

Don't block any and open the flood gates if you are not having those affiliates trying to card your program. And since you offer revshare, you won't get many carders. Carders like the PPS model.

So really, don't do a single thing, ever, with your billing and simply leave it alone. Don't do any pre-scrub either with IP or anything else, as it will just lead to false positives and you accidentally blocking good joins.

If you were to say you do have the occassional affiliate trying to game your program, the advice would be different. But it would be only monitoring the affiliate with a custom program and then simply banning the bad affiliates.

Vietnam, Indonesia, Serbia, Laos - No money
Israel - chargebacks
China - brute force attacks and waste of bandwidth
Entire Africa (except S.Africa and Rhodesia <- still few rich white people left) - fraud

Pump your breaks! Serbia is no money and no credit card, not just no money...why would you need a CC with no money?...

Some really great points here. Thanks for taking the time to write all that out! My inclination is let the doors wide open.....:)

I would add Australia to that list.

Aussies: jowly chargeback motherfuckers waiting in the kangaroo pouch to pop out and put another one of your balls on the barbie. A dingo stole your baby's credit card? :321GFY

I might be beating a dead horse here but going to add just a little bit of information for you. If you follow it, you will see quite a bit of added income.

Your type ins are gold. You telling me that I would immediately do this:

Contact a rep for a mid. Karen at orbitalpay is good. Reserve your mid. Make it primary in your billing and remove every single scrub option they offer. Get an overseas ipsp like epoch or something and cascade your 05 and 51 declines to it.

Only thing you refund is a woman's name on join.

You follow that you probably will double your income. And I am assuming you won't have affiliate carders... but those are easy to catch if that became an issue.

And you could let all affiliates keep their links by simply using sliiing.

... oh, and don't fight any chargebacks. In the end the fees and your won chargebacks become a wash. 2nd chargebacks will come in and bam, another 25 bucks down the drain.

Don't even get me started on the 6.95 trial with pre-checked multi site free trial to rebill at 59.95 monthly... on your own server.

Customer emails in... why do I have a 60 dollar charge? Answer... dude, you got 88 sites for that! Less then $1 per month, per site!! It's a steal, can't refund such an awesome deal bud.

Quadruple that number :2 cents:
