Usenet newsgroups brings back a lot of memories - flood posting for promotion back in the day.

Barely a day went by we weren't all over ABPEB.

A lot of popular websites got their start from Usenet. Got their content there too.

alt.binaries.great.ass.paulina was my favourite.

most people use it as an alternative to torrents

And as a place to C&C botnets. Along with IRC.

It was the fastest and most reliable one....

I made a lot of money selling subscriptions to GUBA (Gigantic Usenet Binary Archive) back in the day. After they dumped their core business model and cut their own balls off in a misguided attempt to chase porn-leery venture capital money so they could get acquired as a YouTube competitor (LOL, didn't happen) they had a few competitors rise up to try and fill their niche. But they're all gone now, and there's not much left in the old newsgroups.

Usenet used to be a lot of fun to play with.

Remember waiting 3 hours to download "German teen sucks big dick" without even knowing ahead of time she was fat and disgusting because there were no thumbnails? Every so often, you could sift out that one gold nugget. A 240 by 180, grainy-ass video of a hot teen getting it doggy style for 30 whole seconds. And you popped a giant nut at the end of that 30 seconds. Make sure it doesn't get on your new Adidas sweatpants, or it'll be all crusty by the time you sit down for dinner.

Usenet is the original. Few of us know what looking at green font is about. I'll admit I know much more about IRC but I was still there going online for real 25 years ago. Bulletin board systems. Both dialed and Ran them. :)
