the Italian earthquake

As no one else has mentioned the earthquake in Italy, I thought I'd start a thread to give our sympathies to the poor people homeless & many dead in the tragic incident over the past few days :(

It was a 6.2 magnitude & sadly, they believe every one left under the rubble is dead :Oh crap

Everyone has been left homeless & for many hours, they waited, children, women & men.

Italy earthquake: Rescuers' desperate search for survivors as toll hits 250 - CNN.com

Sad situation. RIP to those dead.

ahh ok, thanks for info pornguy. Yes, it seems many more are presumed dead now, if not everyone else that's left under the rubble.

When it happened, I was appalled at the time it took for emergency services to make it to the zones :(

It's on the British news every evening with updates now :Oh crap

"They've told us for years we should make our houses anti-seismic," said Gloria Nardo, 69, of Amatrice. "But how do you retrofit a brick house built in 1750? It's almost all gone now."
Rescuers scramble as death toll rises to 250 in Italy quake

Over 250 dead ...
That's actually rubble stone masonry construction. In time ( a few 100 years), the lime they used to to make the portland cement and sand mix toolable (lay up with a trowel) in the mortar weakens -- the mortar bond to the stone core softens -- there is some shock to the walls and this is what happens.

Very tragic. I hate to see lives lost.

Seems there was also a similar sized earthquake in Burma, but it was in the middle of no where so the damage was limited.

very sad, those old european towns are no match for earthquakes

Harambe 08-25-2016 06:30 PM

These natural disasters, always out of our hands and always leave people with nothing.
They better start building those earthquake proof establishments over there.

Struggle4Bucks 08-26-2016 12:17 AM

They should look at it from the positive side... The weather there is nice and for a period of time they had a home...:thumbsup

agreed & I heard today there was another just miles up the road in the mountains. Lucky there was no injuries, but strange the area is shaking lots over the past few days. Maybe it was an aftershock... :(
