understanding a crazy situation ending up with a loss of limb
 

While feeling sorry for this elderly lady, having her arm ripped off & probably now laying in hospital. I can't understand how this happened, there's no logic.

The article say "She turned on the ignition to get the power for the electric windows, but unfortunately the car was in gear and lurched forward - trapping her hand or arm."

So she was turning the ignition on to close the window with her arm in the window.

Can someone please explain how this works? :helpme

Well the best analogy I can come up with is that it looks like it got trapped in a way like the way your front door lock and chain works. You can slide the lock part in and slide it out but when you open the door, it won't budge. So her arm was locked in and the car suddenly bolted forward presumably with such force that it could not have dragged her but simply removed her arm instead.

Terribly, sad story....

but the lady put her arm in the window, turned on the electric to close the window. I can't get my head around the logic. You need to open the door to close the window or your arm would be in the window...

this could be what happened. As said, what the article says is the woman had her arm through the window to start the electric and close the window from outside of the car. Which is why I said, none of it makes sense.
