The industry is going backwards

Axeman 09-04-2016 06:09 PM

There is still die hard photo fans. So you have potential to still get a good loyal market of users to your sites focused on photos. Of course this is a much smaller % of the overall market.

freecartoonporn 09-04-2016 06:11 PM

adapt to GIF

camgirlshide 09-04-2016 07:39 PM

This was an interesting one so I thought I should look up the % of american internet users still using dial up. My feeling was they were your pic viewers. Best I could find was 2015 and it was 3%. That's actually a lot lower than I would have guessed.

We still get most feedback from members on photo sets, and what they want to see and how to see them posed. Most download our 3000 pixel resolution zip sets.

Rochard 09-04-2016 09:26 PM

I remember.... Taking video for a website and not even knowing how to get the video into the computer. Back then we had to have a special card to make it happen.

No, pictures is an add on at this point - an expected bonus.

arock10 09-04-2016 09:49 PM

Shitty tube vid vs high res detail pic. This ain't a bandwidth thing or something that can be rationalized

BIGTYMER 09-04-2016 09:55 PM

I can't recall the last time I wacked it to a picture..

There will always be a % that do tho.

Spunky 09-04-2016 10:29 PM

People still dig the pix. all I need is a certain pose to get me off

Rare unless I took the picture myself of a chick I know and am reliving the brutal pounding her poor pussy took. :winkwink:

Paul Markham 09-05-2016 01:03 AM

There are huge pictures sites with loads of traffic. Twitter for instance. LOL

SBJ 09-05-2016 01:16 AM

I haven't jerked to pictures in decades but people still join sites from picture galleries. Pictures set the scene of what you will see in videos once you join. With how big video files have become today, when looking in a members area I'll look at pictures to decide what videos to watch/download.

I also agree that gifs are the future of promoting. You can show small bits of action without giving away full or clips of real video

j3rkules 09-05-2016 05:07 AM

There is still market for surfers that like to jack off to pictures. Thehun's site is a good example.

wehateporn 09-05-2016 05:10 AM

Mostly promoting pictures here, still good for now

bns666 09-05-2016 05:34 AM

depends on the niche also

Kafka 09-05-2016 06:59 AM

People take more pictures than video's so pictures are not obsolete.
Most adult video's are so boring, it's always the same suck, fuck and cum. Pictures makes you more fantasize but i am a pictures fan.

CaptainHowdy 09-05-2016 10:47 AM

Porn gifs are strangely arousing ...

crockett 09-05-2016 10:52 AM

Don't forget more people use mobile now than regular internet providers. These people often have limited data usage. I use a 20 gig data plan for my internet as example and just fill the gaps with wifi if I have to do any big D/Ls.

jscott 09-05-2016 11:58 AM

So picture sites, still good for promotion of adult sites. I agree.

But as for a person pleasuring themselves, I think mostly end of days

SpicyM 09-05-2016 03:31 PM

Ask MetArt if they are struggling..

charlie g 09-05-2016 03:37 PM

my personal masturbation vehicle is bing gif image searches. I have a few picture sites that get a decent amount of traffic from google image. somebody is looking

You mean ask them how they are doing right now, compared to pre-tube? Sure they're doing great, but in comparison, i highly doubt it

ruff 09-05-2016 03:41 PM

No money of any kind in photo sites, TGP or other wise. The really huge money is in tube sites. Everybody knows this except newbies. You want to be rich, start a tube site and just sit back and post shit on GFY. I did, and now I am rich.

Yes some like photo and others prefer video. My thought is the market is moving to user generated video with older and more specialty focused members joint image sites with video

Grapesoda 09-05-2016 04:54 PM

Sorry joining

mce 09-05-2016 05:16 PM

OP, you mean it hasn't already died?

Photo is not dead. There is use for it. I'm just thinking about this since i have some very old picture sites, and wondering is it still even worth updating those, spending time and resources on them, continue investing time/money on link work etc.

Or better off allocating to other things, like video, VR, etc.

I think, for the most part, picture porn is only good use for affiliates providing gateway to sponsor sites

There is no point to compare anything to the pre-tube era. Tubes have been here for years now and will be here.

As for MetArt, they have Alexa rank of 12k and you can see it has actually improved over the last months. And they only offer softcore pics and vids.. No even masturbation if I am right.

Yes, quality pictures are still wanted if the niche is suitable for pics (glamour, teens, etc.)

... LOL they have more traffic than The Hun - now, how funny is that :)

Look Chang 09-05-2016 07:59 PM

Gravure sites are still converting well :2 cents:

On the data I have, which is not insignificant, large picture sites are seeing growth that is outstripping some of the large tubes in percentage terms.

I think picture sites have the following benefits.

Pictures can be consumed easily on mobile devices.

Single photos do not force the surfer through a preset story line - they can develop their own fantasy.

Pictures are quickly and easily browsed, where as videos not so much.

Now on data.

Node.XXX data shows that a person visiting a picture site will take 19% longer to return to the search engine than from a tube site.

SEMRush data shows sites like sex.com and smutty.com still in a growth phase.

Personal preferences aside, picture sites are seeing growth and I don't expect that trend to change any time soon.

anexsia 09-06-2016 10:44 PM

I'm doing well with blogs with pictures linking to FHGs.

gnawledge 09-07-2016 01:33 AM

For me I'm a pic fan. Yes videos are great but there's nothing like a Snapchat picture or high resolution picture of a hot girl. Like today, a guy posted a set of pics of a new he had recently shot. She's gorgeous. Screw the videos I'm happy with the pics and I wanted more. I've never done that for a video sampler.
And a prime example of how pics are still top game is 4chan.. pics are traded there like 10000 a second. And small .webm 6 second vids at max. So 2005 Russian girl on a old SMART THUMB site is the failure. Not the picture love.

photos are still a huge draw imo. That's what facebook was founded on and still succeeds with. instagram as joined them.

there has also been a huge influx of photo pin sites - but I think real success comes from blending photos, gifs, and videos together. sex.com has done a good job of blending them together nicely.

HomerSimpson 09-07-2016 02:15 PM

No money to be made with pictures? Nobody is into that?
Well tell that to guys that use Reddit, Imgur, Sex.com, Tumblr...

jscott 09-07-2016 02:48 PM

Let me rephrase.

Do you think it's worthwhile for us adult webmasters to continue building picture sites to promote paysites? Or time better spent on video.

Of course pictures will always have their place in the world, in mainstream, social and even adult. But who here has resources to build Tumblr, Reddit type sites? Im guessing nobody. I brought up this topic, and it's relation to people here in the adult industry.

Do both.

I have excellent results from picture only blogs but admittedly I do make more money from tubes. However tubes cost much more to run than picture blogs.

The Porn Nerd 09-07-2016 03:58 PM

Old people like pictures.
Young people expect videos.

mechanicvirus 09-07-2016 05:55 PM

Doubt it, I still know quite a few people who do really well with pictures.

Yes astill a huge draw. But not for a paysite.

yup... people seem to like a handful of pics or caps to represent what is in a video, but the actual video is the primary interest.

MaDalton 09-08-2016 04:56 PM

we still do a lot of pictures...

mechanicvirus 09-08-2016 05:00 PM

For every anecdote about how pictures never convert, there's at least 20 picture only websites out there that not only convert pictures, but softcore only!

Nicky 09-08-2016 06:21 PM

Depends how you promote it. It sure has it's place still.
