SEAL Team 6 HALO insert in Afghanistan during rescue operatoin
 

Seems SEAL Team 6 just did a rare HALO insert into Afghanistan in an attempt to recuse hostages recently taking during the attack on the university in Afghanistan. The hostages were not there, seven enemy fighters were killed, no SEALs were hurt.

How bad ass is that?

100s of people planning the operation for the past week... all the logistics of making it happen, etc... the total cost was probably $50M... and the end result "hostages were not there"... yea, very bad ass... :1orglaugh

Seven enemy dead, no Americans wounded. Seems like like a success to me.

Just because the hostages weren't there doesn't mean it wasn't a success.

They killed Taliban and got out with no one dead. Not every mission will end up a complete success when you are dealing with 3rd party intel in a country full of goat farmers ravaged by war for decades.

The mission objective was to rescue the hostages.
The hostages were not rescued.

With all due respect generally in a hostage rescue mission, if the hostages aren't there then it can be classed as a failure.

And I disagree. The primary mission was to rescue the hostages, but that was only one goal. Other goals included killing the enemy, taking over their position, and then gathering intelligence. Seems to me they got three out of four, and didn't have any wounded in the process.
