Westworld

Watched the first episode last night... I really liked it.

Although it's a remake JJ Abrams is knocking this one out of the park.

Thoughts?

Scott McD 10-04-2016 09:58 AM

Yeah gonna give this one a try. Been advertised a lot right now...

CurrentlySober 10-04-2016 10:31 AM

Its on tv tonight for me - will be watching ;0

2MuchMark 10-04-2016 10:32 AM

PVR'ed but didn't watch it yet. Will tonight. It looks really, really good.

Paul&John 10-04-2016 10:40 AM

Trailer looked promising

EddyTheDog 10-04-2016 10:46 AM

I saw the first episode - Not sure - I never liked westerns, but I love sci-fi - I'm not sure what to make of it...

CourtneyR 10-04-2016 10:48 AM

I agree with Eddy, normally am not fond of anything Western. So far its really good.

AllAboutCams 10-04-2016 10:53 AM

I liked it and never seen the original but want to now

Bruno Cunha 10-04-2016 11:20 AM

I will wait the second episode to give an opinion.

stopitbrrruce 10-04-2016 11:37 AM

So fucking good. Ed Harris scary as hell and Evan Rachel Wood is wildly attractive.

The score is great as well, anyone else notice that honky-tonk piano version of "Black Hole Sun"? :thumbsup:thumbsup

CaptainHowdy 10-04-2016 12:30 PM

Will watch ...

mineistaken 10-04-2016 01:08 PM

Yeah noticed that as well.

j3rkules 10-04-2016 02:06 PM

Pilot episode was beyond awesome. Future dark side of being a human in paradise/hell world. Nudity and violence just makes this sci-fi universe come alive.
One of the best pilots ever seen. Can't wait for more episodes.

Yes, very good. I thought the robots looked really realistic. I almost thought they were people. I was impressed :thumbsup

Paul Markham 10-05-2016 02:20 AM

Looking forward to seeing it. At least they have found skilled actors instead of the wooden ones who only look good.

Top notch sets, acting and effects...

But they jumped the shark by introducing the bad elements waaaaay toooo sooon.

My God, let's settle in, get to know the place a little better before they spring out the bad bots. Build characters, and situations, then sprinkle in those evil bad bots. This series is new to a whole new generation so why just drop the needle on the record?

What's the rush rush rush???

'I'll watch a few more, but not impressed with the debut. I trust it will get better.

Love the original movie.

I'm still waiting for the remake of Logan's Run and Soylent Green. I think Logan would make an awesome series.... all building up to a big climax at the end.

BTW, J.J. was the exec producer... didn't have much to do with it other than writing a check and possibly approving the rushed script. J.J. is a great action director but knows jack shit about drama and story telling. If you don't believe me, just go see Star Wars VII. :1orglaugh:1orglaugh:1orglaugh:1orglaugh:1orglaugh

Adnium_Ivana 10-05-2016 06:19 AM

I honestly thought the trailer and the acting looked bad..but if ppl are saying it's good I'll check it out

stephane76 10-05-2016 01:30 PM

So far so good. Will be watching ep2

FetishGeek 10-05-2016 09:17 PM

I'm interested to see where they are going to take things. It seems like they gave a lot away in the first episode, so I'm curious what kind of major reveals might be coming up, or if it just going to turn into a basic good-guy bad-guy back and forth kind of thing.

Also, I am wondering a lot about the world outside of the theme park. It feels a bit constricted that these people can come and go, but we never see the world they are coming and going from.

deonbell 10-08-2016 11:03 AM

Very goods show. I watch 1 and 2. Very much possibilites.

I would fuck 2 hosts. Thens at night I would try to fuzz them. Say weird stuffs and see their reaction.

I would get Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood) and Charlotte Hale (Tessa Thompson) alone in a room and have them go interracial lesbian.

mineistaken 10-08-2016 12:18 PM

Ok is the world actual size or the size of the one planted in the room?
Do tourists go as actual bodies or only their minds?

Asking because I have arguments against all of these...

I watched the first episode finally and was hooked immediately. Really well done. I am a fan of the original movie but this is a really cool looking update.

So yes, same question: What is that big thing in the middle of the room? Are people actually transported into it which is where they live out the fantasies? It would make sense in a way because you don't want planes or other Anachronisms to ruin the experience for the guests. But then again, maybe its just an elaborate high-tech display. I think the later is correct.

Anyway, so far, great show. Lots of cool twists and turns, and the acting is great.

Didn't see ep2 yet.

LovinNothin 10-11-2016 04:26 AM

Episode #2 should've been the first one. # 2 had better development and story foundation.

Problem now is the format is becoming very predictable:

Long streches of boring dialogue, then POW!! BOOM!!! DEATH!! WOW!!!! ok I'm watching it now..... then...ZZZZzzz z ZZZZz zzzzz boring slow dialogue to the point where I want to turn it off...

then....BAM!!!! POW!!!!! BLOOD!!!!! ROBOT DEATH!!! OK, I'll stick around another 15 minutes....

But it's getting harder and harder to get thru the long boring self indulgent slow mo 'adult' dialogue.

Pick up the fucking pace, it's not a soap opera. There is better meaningful dialogue in a original Star Trek episode from the 60's!!

bronco67 10-11-2016 04:48 AM

I think it's well done, but I see a problem arising from the "no stakes" factor. If everyone being killed is an AI, how can there be any sense of tension? At least on GOT and Walking Dead, the fear of losing a character is always giving you a sense of dread. In Westworld, if one of the robots dies, we know they'll be back.

It's written by the guy who made Jurassic Park. This is the x rated version of Jurassic park. If I recall everything starts out nice and cute and then quickly goes wildly out of control

Klen 10-11-2016 05:46 AM

They dont have Yul Brynner in it...

Obviously the robots are about to revolt and start killing the guests.

I don't think that's what the show is about. That's what the crappy B movie from the 70's is about.

The focus of the TV version is the exploration of sentience and what it means to be human. If robots start killing guests, how could they drag that out for five seasons? The park would be shut down. I think Westworld is attempting to be much more cerebral than you give it credit for.

Perhaps robots will kill people but park wont shutdown, instead corporation which running it will hide it as there is too much money in stake.

MaDalton 10-11-2016 08:34 AM

the original movie was awesome, gonna check this out just because of that

mikesouth 10-11-2016 05:28 PM

DEF worth a watch, there are many directions it could go from here I won't venture a guess as to which ones itll take but it is one of those good sci fi premises that makes you think...question things....I am looking forward to future episodes.

PS dont overlook the 30 yr veterAan who seems to be vying for a way to stay in westworld forever....I expect he is going to provide some surprises

Yep!

Did you also notice they played "Paint it Black" by Rolling Stones? (played in the scene where lots of people get shot in the street)

uno 10-11-2016 08:31 PM

It has Anthony Hopkins and a personal favorite, Jimmi Simpson. I'm sold.
