My first impressions:

Oculus Rift is amazing for 3D environment but quite disappointing with videos.

The immersion is total when you can move three-dimensionally in the environment, which is not possible with video. In this case, it's just a bit of 3d improved.

The gaming experience is impressive and I'm pretty sure it will be a huge hit on christmas, especially since that Oculus revealed they will release a VR ready computer for $499 only.

3D on OR's and similar VR's looks amazing when its shot properly, but you're right, there's no immersion. The task that alot of content producers are working on is to find a way to create immersive video at a low cost. It's crappy today today but there's no doubt it will get better.

As for getting sick, you won't.

Early models had some people getting sick because the movement of what users were seeing, would not quite keep up with a person's head movements. This lag would make your brain think it was poisoned and tell your stomach to throw up. (This happened on early test rides of the old Back To The Future ride at Universal Studios. Riders were puking all over the place until they fixed the lag issue).

Well, I have tested full 3D world and 360° VR videos (stereoscopic) and both are really different.

Let's start with the videos. I have watched some really good porn productions with it and some "sport like" clips with 360° view in plane, bike, rollercoaster etc.

They are all "disappointing". Basically, it feel like any good 3D movie. Porn is even quite disturbing. I found very weird to "be" a guy with another dick and since you can't really move yourself in the scene, you lose what really is the craze about VR.

Gaming.

Now that's serious. Enter a VR game is a fantastic experience. I can not even describe how it feels but Imagine that when you play with VR, you are IN the game. You are not watching, you are IN. And you can be anything you want. It takes only few seconds to forget where your body is actually standing. And when you remove the headset, you have a weird sensation... just like Neo when he gets back from the Matrix.
