That was because the internet was still pretty new and exploding and there was a ton of easy money out there to be made. Not because a Republican was in the White House.
I don't, for one second, think either party is pro-porn. They will both do and say what they think their base wants to hear so they can keep getting elected. With republicans, saying you are anti-porn gets you some votes because the industry is easy fodder. Democrats know their base will be less receptive to that. It is pretty well-known that Bush and Ashcroft were putting together an anti-porn task force prior to 9/11, but it was set aside after 9/11. I wonder what may have happened if 9/11 hadn't occurred.
All that said, even if Trump pulls off the miracle and wins, he won't come after porn. He has made millions selling pay per view porn in his hotels and casinos and he recently even suggested voters look up a former Ms. Universe's sex tape.
