Advice Needed On Interactive Pen Displays And Drawing Tablets

My son recently started college and aside from the core classes he is taking graphic design and animation courses with plans of working on video game graphics in his future. For his upcoming birthday, I would like to get him a drawing tablet but I have no idea about these products and could use some helpful advice. He doesn't need the Cadillac version of this device at this time, but I do want to make sure I get a good one for him as he is learning.

At this time, I am looking at the Wacom Intuos Pro or possibly one of the Microsoft Surface devices.

Wacom as far as I know has always been the pillar of quality digital pen to canvas.

Wacom for sure

The Wacom Intuos pro is kind of like the "Cadilac" of Wacom tablets although there ARE pricier models out there. For a new student of GD, I personally don't think it's necessary but it does have some more bells and whistles the more inexpensive versions from Wacom don't have so if your son likes tinkering around with new tech it might be worth it.

When I was starting out I got myself a Intuos Draw Small tablet, bec. it's a) inexpensive (80 right now from the main site) b) hella responsive c) the bamboo pen is smooth and give me exact curves and details d) stupidly easy to use & set up
