Mainstream Domain Name Valuation Help Needed
I'm considering buying a mainstream 3-word domain name for a business of mine. Seller is asking $3,800 for it. I want to pay $1,200 for it. It's currently parked and actively being marketed for sale. Nothing on it. Not generating revenue. The reseller sent me comps but, IMO, the comps suck. They are claiming sales prices of $2,000 to $4,000 for domains that are just parked and being resold again by a different reseller.
Is there a way to verify the sales prices of domains? Any advice about valuing a domain name? It's worth whatever I'm willing to pay? Thoughts? |
It's what you are willing to pay and is the only correct answer.
Is it blacklivesmatter.com ? |

Buyer A may pay 1k where Buyer B may pay 5k. Finances of the seller comes into play as well. If he needs the money may sell, if he's financially stable may have the patience to wait for the right buyer to come along which may happen or might never happen but can afford the gamble of holding out. Been buying & selling domains since 2003, currently 526 in stock mainly mainstream. |
Thank you.

I've sold and bought a lot of domains. It all depends on if it will benefit you in the long run and can you at least establish a brand from it? There are a few domains I've had my eyes on for years. There is one from a defunct record label from the '90s that was pretty good. I envision making a ultra babe member site with old logos from them and so forth. The domain is $3,800.00 and totally worth it. Can I recoup the money right away? No. will it take me a while to make up for it? Yes.
But I know I can brand it, use my brain to make it what I want and eventually even out. Yes. I don't even care about the monthly stats because it's something that I want. And when you're dealing with domainers that aren't hard up for money and know they have something you want. They sort of dictate. I'd just weigh your options. |

It's waiting costing you money?

also depends on who the seller is. if they own tens of thousands of domains they are unlikely to accept 1200 for it.
|
There is no way to comp a domain period. The value is the happy medium between buyer and seller.
