Vbulletin 5 vs Xenforo

I acquired a vbulletin 4 forum some time ago and I was now thinking of putting more time on it, the niche of the forum suits the mobile market. That's why I'm thinking of getting the vBulletin 5 Connect + Mobile Suite Bundle, it will cost me $359 though. I also like the custom IOS / android apps that is offered which I think will boost the forum.

Or I move away from vbulletin for xenforo which will cost me less but will take some more time to learn the UI and admin as I am completely new with xenforo. I also don't know much about the xenforo mobile version (3rd party solution / wrapper) other than what I read on the website.

Thing is I know many have a hate relationship with vbulletin and I also don't want to do a mistake picking the wrong forum solution. The web is also full of vbulletin 5 rants when it was young, but it sure feels like vbulletin 5 have matured by now.

Money is not an excuse so $150 or $200 more isn't going to change my mind as long as it is on par.

So, what do you say users of either forum, is vbulletin 5 good enough ? or is instead xenforo a good pick for the future?

My plan is to start with this in a few days when things clear.

Xenforo all the way. I sold up my vb licenses and moved to XF. If you can live with responsive as opposed to an app, it'll be fine. There are a couple of third party apps in dev for XF too.

Well it really depends. vBulletin does have more features out of the box than XenForo.Vbulletin is best if you want to use 3.8. version. If you step up like 4. or 5., then it is better to go with Xenforo.

Xenforo FTW

Looks like vbulletin is in really bad shape 2016. Forums owners with vbulletin 5 switches some time after, for other solutions.

Real shame how the management ruined vbulletin over a few years.

Yes. I've converted four forums over the last few years and sold off the licenses - 2 vb5 and 2 vb4. I really don't regret the switch. Plus the third-party add-ons are great with XF.

XF is pretty solid. Loads fast... IPS looks good too, but I don't have any sites powering it.
