Shared hosting or VPS?

Shared hosting or VPS?

How are they different? Can a crappy VPS be the same as shared hosting?

think about traffic level. sign up on dreamhost kill yourself

Depends what you want/need. VPS is more powerful and more resources than shared hosting. If you are looking for a hosting, let me know.

Shared hosting will have way more restrictions than a VPS. With a VPS is like having a piece of a dedicated server, you have root access also, you can install whatever you want, restart your process...

I use shared hosting when developing new sites and experimenting with new systems, but I use my VPS when running in production mode.

VPS is often un-managed and requires some skills... While shared is often loaded with some kind of control panel (cPanel/Plesk etc)...

Sly 11-01-2016 05:15 PM

Most VPS accounts are not managed, that is something that must be taken into consideration. If you are not able to manage a VPS, then shared is your only option unless you find a VPS offer that includes management. We recently made available a handful of managed VPS accounts that include our fully managed support.

A lot of hosts offer fully managed VPS nowadays.

True but if you add something like 20-30 bucks to it a month, its not really worth it anymore

I use both shared and VPS ! Depends on site needs but of course a VPS is always better and you'll have your own IP which is more SEO friendly !

I have a few VPS accounts and many shared hosting accounts with different hostings, shared is fine for lower traffic sites. Just avoid those hosts that oversell their servers.

Very much good information here. Thank you.
