Can somebody explain Kanye West to me?
 

I really don't get it. He can't sing. He can't dance. He can't act. He can't write an original song or a melody. He has no natural talent other than the ability to talk, rhyme words to a beat (which any 4th grader can do) and yet people flock to his concerts?

His shows have no production value, no sets, and just minimal lighting. So it can't be to see some elaborate visual show. So what gives? And when he does "attempt" to sing (if you call it singing) he ALWAYS uses a voice auto tune unit because he can't attempt to sing without it. He has no natural pitch, which is a minimum requirement of any singer.

I just don't get it? Does he and Kim K know something we all don't? How does this couple with no natural talent, make so much money based on hype?

If it weren't for rap music and the gullibility of mindless 17 year old fans, this clown would be selling shoes at Foot Locker.

I can explain him with one word

• Genius

In short, Kanye made it okay for Rap and hip hop to be self-conscious. Basically, most hip hop is about bravado. I am the best, I have the most, I fuck the most chicks, I have the biggest cock etc. Kanye made fun of himself and had odd, funny, strange lyrics. He also pulled a lot more old school soul into his sound.

So he basically took hip hop and wrapped it in pop and soul and made it okay to be a weirdo then when others started to imitate him and adopt his style and sound, he left it behind and made a record that has almost no samples, minimalistic styling and he relies mostly on his voice and auto tune to make the melodies.

808's and Heartbreak is widely considered his best record because of the drastic change in style, but I think My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is Kanye at his best. The sound jumps all over the map and often breaks down in a very experimental fashion. The lyrics are brilliant and it has a bit of schizophrenic feel to it. Listen to this record. If you like it and get it, you will understand why Kanye is influential. If you don't, fair enough, he's not for everyone.

Until you've written and produced one rap song "like any fourth grader" on Kanye's level you don't really have any place to talk about how little talent it takes. A lot more goes into it than "talking over someone else's music." Kanye is one of the most talented producers in the rap game.

LOL. When I was a kid I loved Huey Lewis and the News. I still enjoy them as a nice distraction. It's good pop music to bob your head to and listen to while you are working or doing things, but I wouldn't say it was anything ground breaking.

My favorite rant in that book is when he goes off on Phil Collins and Genisis. :)
