The only sense apple laptops make sense is . . .

They are fucking silent. They have no other advantage. And that makes me ask, dafuck, is that an alien tech to have a PC laptop not being a helicopter?

Ramble in, who has a FUCKING silent PC laptop?

Dell XPS? Acer Zenbook?

Share.

MaDalton 11-18-2016 09:50 AM

I started to suspect that after 7 years of usage my MBP keeps working well while 2 y.o. fairly modern Acer is now keeps ventilators spinning all the time.

What's your mac?

Goethe 11-18-2016 05:32 PM

this right here. I completely agree. I just don't like the latest generation of MBP very much.

onwebcam 11-18-2016 08:20 PM

My Dell is. Don't ask me what it is, it's the shit doh.

gnawledge 11-18-2016 10:00 PM

My MacBook Pro and air were great. I made a windows desktop to play a game that's online. Other than that Apple computers are worth every penny.

Relic 11-18-2016 10:24 PM

Resist the power of the fag cult that is apple op.

Mac's are nice. If you make a lot of money and can't be bothered to spend lots of time researching specifics then they are the way to go.

I've gone to a lot of meetups where people are good designers and developers but couldn't tell you anything about their machines. In that case Paying double for same PC specs isn't much of a concern, plus you get to fit in with every other designer (more important to people than you might think).

I prefer absolute silence or close to it, no noise at all of any kind when working. Most machines with an SSD and just an intel CPU with integrated graphics will give you that.
When you add a powerful graphics card, LOOK OUT! Things can start to get noisy.

The only time Apple was cheap is when repairing the mobile devices are Apple's are half (or less) as pricey to fix overall. The device line up is more uniform as well.

Do you think a core i7 16GB RAM and integrated card could do well ( SILENT ) with Photoshop? I dont play games.

I don't know, I would call a couple stores and get a few opinions. Time is money but Apple products are expensive enough that doing a little research is worth it in this case. You may have to look around before you get a good and honest answer.

I would assume they are usually quiet as my air is always quiet unless I run something cpu intensive.

The Pro's are nice computers but the 15" run $2000-2800. I'm sure you'll be happy either way. 16 GB of RAM, I'm sure the computer will last you at least 5 years. My 2010 iMac is still great after I upgraded it to a SSD (not an easy task).

2MuchMark 11-19-2016 03:31 PM

Mac laptops are awesome. Fast, silent, light weight, batteries last forever, boots in 5 seconds (SSD), charges to 100% in less than an hour, beautiful screen, comfortable keyboard, sexy design, perfect OS, gush gush gush.

johnnyloadproductions 11-19-2016 03:34 PM

Unless you are going to be coffee shop hopping or driving around giving demos or something similar I would always invest in a workstation.
If you are not developing apps specifically for iOS I wouldn't even bother with an Apple computer (mac).

Even though I have a lot of Apple products I've slowly grown to have distaste and even contempt for their philosophy.

The keynotes make me sick, "this is going to revolutionize..."

"...the best (fill in the blank) yet."

Ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh hhhh.

johnnyloadproductions 11-19-2016 03:44 PM

Apple will eventually dissolve in the next 10-20 years, lack of ideas and leadership.

Hopefully the idea of Steve Jobs dies with it. Good riddance.

Hannes 11-19-2016 03:47 PM

personally, my mac has been the best desktop I've ever had

Performance wise integrated card sucks comparing to any dedicated GPU. But somehow I heard macbook airs 13" with 8Gb RAM do more than well with Photoshop.

My alternative thinking is getting DELL Inspiron 17 7778 -17".

I'm still in doubt I can handle anything done on a 13 air and even on a 13 MBP retina - screen is too small physically. 15" MBP is not in the game, bitch is simply too expensive.

That's a nice computer, Dell (from my experience) tends to have a reputation as the price gouger in the PC world but that computer is still less than half of the premium Apple lineup.

Either way you will get a nice machine so I wouldn't worry too much. Let us know what you get and how well it works for you.

So, finally, I went with a maxed out macbook air 13" - good to work in the PS with an external display, good enough to play World Of Warcraft and nice to jerk off to MILF content I admire.

Main add-on - it's FUCKING SILENT.

Same here. I have 2 Macs on my main "work" desk, and an Alienware running windows 10 on my other desk. I am much more productive on my Macs. Super-silent, fast, etc etc.

I will say that Windows Vista, 7 and 8 all sucked, but Windows 10 is not that bad. I didn't care for the interface at first but it has grown on me. OS/X is still much better and so much more secure. But at least Windows is looking more up to date and modern now.

Well, that Dell is $700 more expensive here. And it's a PC. Piriod :)
