Trump's conflict of interest problems

The Trump Organization is moving into the White House

Quote:

Donald Trump Meets With His Indian Business Partners Despite Blind Trust Promises | The Huffington Post

Two days later, the president-elect met with Japan?s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in New York City, his first visit from a foreign leader. Ivanka Trump, executive vice president of development and acquisitions for the Trump Organization, was also in attendance. She is supposed to be running the Trump Organization separate from her father?s administration to avoid any potential conflicts of interest or their appearance. The Trump family appears to be struggling mightily to avoid these conflicts.

?It looks to us that he?s clearly not able to maintain a blind trust and still keep the company under his ownership and, frankly, control,? said Jordan Libowitz, communications director for the ethics watchdog Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington. ?We really think that the best thing he can do is sell the company outside of the family and place the money from the sale into an actual blind trust. ...?

...The Trump transition team did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Further evidence that it could be impossible for the president-elect to disconnect himself from his foreign businesses comes from a key diplomatic appointment that Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte made days before Trump?s election victory. Duterte announced that Jose E.B. Antonio would be the country?s envoy to Washington, D.C., for trade and investment. Antonio, chairman of Century Properties Group, is Trump?s business partner in the Philippines. His business is currently building the 57-story Trump Tower at Century City in the capital Manila.

For countries and foreign leaders more used to a corrupt government environment, there will be numerous opportunities to curry favor with the incoming president through his businesses.
Fat chance of that ever happening.
So, you[s] thought the government would be better run by a corrupt businessman than by a corrupt politician? :1orglaugh:1orglaugh:1orglaugh

The libby press is going to hound this asshat until his 'roids bleed out :2 cents:

In all fairness, Trump is not inaugurated yet. He has a couple of months to put his affairs in order -- to preclude conflicts of interest but his "family trust' is a sham just like Trump U was. But unlike Trump U criminal insider "trade" is a federal felony and an impeachable crime -- are you ready for President Pence :upsidedow

This is what happens when you get your business news from a tabloid site instead of a business site.

Forbes Welcome
He is exempt from conflict of interest statutes and most prohibitions against gifts (as are all U.S. presidents and vice presidents)

The optics of it may not be very good but it is not illegal.

You can't deflect from the law by discrediting the news source

Why is a quote by " said Jordan Libowitz, communications director for the ethics watchdog Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington." not creditable?

The press will dog Trump for years -- get used to it -- grow the fuck up.

When you have little option and know the status quo is going to fuck you. A leap into the dark is the only option.

Now it's up to Washington to change how it works. Will it?

Its just his opinion - it does not change the fact that it is not illegal.

I have no doubt about that. There is also no doubt had hillary won the lovefest from the mainstream news media would have continued and looking the other way while she violates all kinds of laws. Nothing to see here the clintons are good people.

Dvae 11-20-2016 08:13 AM

As a matter of fact the House and Senate are also exempt from similar laws where they can enrich themselves and its totally legal. They don't like to talk about it of course but if you recall 60 minutes did a story on this a few years ago.

Pelosi defends record after "60 Minutes" report - CBS News
Former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi defended her record on credit card reform after a "60 Minutes" reportraised questions about lawmakers potentially executing financial transactions based on insider information.

There is no law prohibiting members of Congress from using non-public information to form their own investment strategies, but the "60 Minutes" questioned several lawmakers about transactions that may have had at least the appearance of a conflict of interest.

Congress trading stock on inside information?
Questioning Pelosi: Steve Kroft heads to D.C.

One of them was Rep. Pelosi, who participated in a 2008 IPO from Visa, just as legislation that would have hurt the credit card companies began moving through the House. Pelosi bought 5,000 shares of Visa at $44 and the stock price rose to $64 just two days later. The credit card legislation never made it to the House floor.

Maybe, I misspoke "unethical" synonym: corruption UNTIL January 20, 2017.

Trump better watch what he does after January 20, 2017 or he will join the other politicians in fed-med.

There laws might also be enjoined toward his family members -- Ivanka Trump won't look so hot in an orange jump suit.

18 U.S. Code is CRIMINAL law.

Trump completed college so I would imagine this is not above HIS reading level.

Barry-xlovecam 11-20-2016 08:53 AM

Well Paul, I think term limits is a no starter :1orglaugh:1orglaugh

However, I agree in concept -- 18 years (3 terms for a US Senator) 18 Years (9 terms of a House Rep) then pension them out. This would be worth the expense to get rid of the 70-87 year old men and women trying to force the USA into its past times :2 cents:

No idea where you live but the US is totally amazing. People here have it pretty amazingly good. We have a healthcare issue. Otherwise crime is down and jobs are up. The rich are richer since hard assets have been restored to bubble status but overall the US has zero issues but race. The middle class was not upset with Washington on an economic level. They were mad at the erosion of white privilege. That is why this is so fucked up.

woj 11-20-2016 09:16 AM

people have voted, he is our next president, why not give the guy benefit of the doubt? lets wait and see what happens, instead of spreading hate before he even set a foot in the oval office...

what are you trying to accomplish here? why are you hoping he will fail? just so you can tell everyone "I told you so"?

Barry-xlovecam 11-20-2016 10:07 AM

1. It is called free speech
2. I always despised the Trump. The man has all the humility of an eggplant.
3. So far all I see are negative things that he is doing.
4. I still remember the corruption of that criminal Nixon and I see a lot of the same traits so far.
5. As soon as I see anything good Trump does I'll let you know.

That answer your question?
I'll survive this better than a lot of you will -- that is hardly any consolation to me.

The press will be all over Trump for the next four years (if he survives that long). Not one major newspaper endorsed him. Every little incident that comes up will get blown up.

It will be fun to watch.

It's going to be fun watching storm away from podiums when asked something he doesn't like -- which will be very often. Today, a reporter asked him about Chris Christie and the bridgegate scandal, and Trump ducked into a black SUV while saying "we like Chris Christie alot!" Get ready for the king of dodging to take office.

Barry-xlovecam 11-20-2016 11:08 AM

NO!

The story is not authorized by the TNN (Trump News Network) :1orglaugh:1orglaugh

I am beginning to think that Trump plans to get a lot more back than his $25 Million Trump U get out of jail card cost :1orglaugh
