Redundant Hostnames?

If you have a site where you're using both the www and without, what are the downsides, will Google send less traffic?

Bump for answers

I think you can set preferred version in GWT. I was getting redundant hostname warning, but it was long ago and it was fixed by following some tutorial online.

Lol, just saw that warning on my GA account. I am doing this:

How To Solve the "Redundant Hostname" Warning in Google Analytics | ProperHost

google will penilize with duplicate content as www and non-www are two copies of same content., well thats my thinking.

but its better to do 301 redirect from one to another.,
i usually go with www to non-www 301 redirects.

Congrats on your first non political/conspiracy thread of the year :thumbsup

literally every SEO-for-noobs article covers this. You need to 301 redirect one to the other.

Thanks for your reply femdomdestiny :thumbsup

I did the htaccess myself after receiving the GA warning :2 cents:

You're the only one to answer the original question :thumbsup

That's what I thought, but I was wondering if it's proven?

I've been really lazy about fixing this, but then when GA told me I fixed it immediately, then I wondered if I'm likely to get a big benefit or not, Google currently sends about 26K per month to the site.
