Tila Tequila's Twitter Account Suspended After 'Sieg Hail Salute'

https://i.imgur.com/JsaNORj.jpg

An alt-right conference was held in Washington, D.C., on Sat., Nov. 19, and among the many gathered to hear white nationalist Richard Spencer speak was former reality TV star Tila Tequila. After she tweeted a photo of herself holding up the Nazi salute during a dinner at Maggianos Little Italy restaurant, the restaurant posted a statement on Facebook apologizing for Tequila's actions, and her Twitter account was later suspended.

"This was a last minute booking made Friday afternoon, and the reservation was made under a different name, therefore we were not aware that NPI was dining with us or what the group represents," Maggianos said in the statement. "After the event, an attendee sent a tweet in which she made a 'Sieg Heil salute' in support of Hitler and white supremacy. This expression of support of Hitler is extremely offensive to us, as our restaurant is home to Teammates and Guests of every race, religion and cultural background."

The restaurant went on to "apologize to the community of Friendship Heights for inadvertently hosting this meeting" and announced that the profits made from the night of the Tila Tequila incident will be donated to "the DC office of the Anti-Defamation League".

Dutch citizen in Netherlands is now pro Nazi, wow!

"she described herself in her Twitter bio as an ?Alt-reich Queen! Literally Hitler!?"

I think someone describing themselves on Twitter as "literally Hitler" and posting pics of themselves doing the Nazi somute is her clearly claiming to be a Nazi. No?

It's a nazi extremist / white surpremacy event, geniuses. It has nothing to do with the 'alt-right'. Two completely different things. Yet the mainstream media labels it as an alt-right event, lumping it in with these nazi wack jobs.

You understand what i mean now? Great, thanks :thumbsup

Why are you lying?

The base of the Alt-Right, and it's inception, began at the National Policy Institute, the group hosting the event Tia Tequila attended giving the Nazi Sign and providing the white supremacist speakers.

OH and spoiler alert!

The founder of NPI/Alt-Right, Richard Bertrand Spencer, is a closet homosexual ;)

Here's his pic to tide you over

How do they know it's a nazi salute?

Looks like Roman legionnaire salute.

Alt-right means pro-white, whether you want to admit it or not.

Mexican PAN Party Members have been openly showing their "salute" on billboards when they are running for various gov. positions. :2 cents:

And Yes like Horatio pointed out, the Swastika has a history dating back thousand of years well before Hitler and his Nazi party came along. Wiki.

Free speech isn't free, you know that. Only rule is you're not prevented from expression and there's criminal consequences for yelling fire in a theatre etc.

true, but given that twitter is a major communication tool, it's debatable if they should have the right to censor who uses, or what is said using that tool...

it's kinda like if ATT would censor who you can make phone calls to, or what you say on the phone... "we listened on your call, we don't like what you said, so we are disconnecting your service!"

so you would have no problem at all, if one day you would get a message: "we noticed you are a 'black lives matter' supporter, we don't agree with those viewpoints, so effective immediately your account is shut down"? what if google de-indexed all 'black lives matter' related sites? obviously it's their site, so they should have the right to censor it any way they want?

when did I say they are violent? I just pointed out a different group with different viewpoints that could have just as easily been banned too...

how am I supporting nazi bullshit? I'm just trying to point out potential pitfalls of censorship... censorship goes both ways... it's all fun and games when groups/sites/etc are censored that you don't like... but just as easily any group you support could be censored for any reason too...

There are a couple of big differences. First, I would be paying for ATT's service whereas Twitter is free. Second, my phone call between me and a friend (or whoever I am talking to) is a private phone conversation whereas Twitter is used to broadcast to a large audience.

If a phone company said they were listening to my private phone conversations and didn't like my political positions or my positions or race or any other issue and they were cutting me off, I would think that is wrong. If I used my phone to call into a live radio show and then went off on a racist rant that was broadcast on the air and ATT decided, upon hearing my rant, that they no longer wanted me as a customer, I wouldn't have a problem with that.

Nazi/skinhead stuff has always been banned this is nothing new.

The people making it seem like something new and shocking seem to be white power and/or Nazi alt-right fanboys. NOT insinuating you are in any way.

I'm not sure fact that it's free is relevant... but I'll play along with that logic... so lets say google, mozilla, microsoft, and few other companies decided that they don't agree with certain political sites' viewpoints, and blocked them in their free browsers...

it's their product, the product is free, so it's their rules... nothing at all would be wrong with censoring sites like that? if you do think something would be wrong, why does twitter have the right to censor, but for example microsoft in their IE software does not?

There is a difference here. If Google decided to block Chrome users from accessing certain sites that they don't agree with, that is censorship. However, that is different than what is happening because the people making those sites are not using Google to broadcast their hate speech. The website(s) in question likely have no affiliation with Google whereas when someone posts some racist stuff on Twitter, Twitter itself is now affiliated with it since they facilitated that post.

My position is very simple. People are free to say whatever they want, however, companies are not required to facilitate that free speech if they so choose.

Barry-xlovecam 11-23-2016 02:47 PM

The First Amendment is a double edged sword.
In commercial free speech there is the right of association.
If a private business, in a private place, wants to not allow certain speech that is not explicitly protected speech -- they have the right to do -- so as long as the violate no other guaranteed right or legal statute.

In a public place like the street; protesters have the right of association and the freedom of speech guaranteed by the First Amendment and Federal law. The right of assembly is not absolute; a governmental authority may require a permit with reasonable restrictions toward public safety.

So, too fucking bad -- try and sue Twitter.

This is just pissing in the wind ...
