Several Presidents have chosen not to live there. Why would you want to anyway if you could afford not to? I imagine that place is hectic as hell not only with staff but tours all the time. Should just be an office/symbol these days..

I must disagree with your assumption. Reason being that both of those first ladies are very traditional and go with the status quo. The entire reason Trump was elected is to shake up the failing system and do things differently.

With a salary of $400K a year and most Presidents being pretty well off when they are elected, all of them could afford to live elsewhere if they wanted to.

Trump living part time in New York (or any President living anywhere but the White House) is not going to make it any less hectic. It will likely be just the opposite. When the President is not in the White House as many as 100 different people are with him wherever he goes. That means all of these people who work for the President are going to have to split time between New York and the White House as well. His life is not going to be any less hectic living part time in New York. I would argue that it will be just the opposite.
