actually this argument brings up a good point. Defining some of this stuff is completely subjective. Maybe her version of abuse and humiliation is completely different than what you think is? Or, for example, are they really banning face sitting? or they just banning smothering? If you have seen some of that stuff that can get pretty violent and dangerous, but when we envision face sitting most of us would imagine just oral sex, which is hardly controversial.

The fact we ourselves can barely define these things tells us that there is no way a governing body will be able to realistically anyway.

The problem is implementing the rules on offshore companies. Can the UK sue an EU porn company? Might be legal in Holland, Germany, Austria. But if they brake the rules and allow UK traffic onto their sites. Are they liable?

Nope. UK sovereignty and jurisdiction stops at their borders. Furthermore, until the UK is no longer part of the EU their ''rules'' are contrary to the EU directives and null in any court in an EU country.

The only things they could realistically do is regulate their local banks not to honor payment transactions to certain persons -- that would be a major pain in the ass. They could block the DNS resolution of the porn websites they do not like but that would not work out very well.

The same applies to any government's jurisdiction -- it ends at their national borders. If there is no corresponding law in the foreign country -- the foreign country's courts will deny the UK any standing to litigate.

I am sure Brits with money to spend will get around these rules rather easily. Overall, UK traffic will be down -- freebie traffic will not be missed by many of us.

Well that's business as usual in the UK isn't it. The BBFC makes it very clear that they don't like porn in format that it's delivered. So I would think that most of the old school pornographers have already registered their business, hosting, etc in other nations.

They were set up to stop pornographers getting found not guilty on Obscenity charges. You had to have the BBFC License which was in reality censorship to sell videos. No license, with a few exceptions, you broke the law. It was a slam-dunk for the government. It also created a huge department of censorship.

The Internet annoys them because it destroys their power over people's viewing. And the jobs at the BBFC. So they come up with this. In full knowledge, it hasn't a hope in hell of working. UK porn production has never been so low, in modern times. Brits will just watch porn produced overseas. Because sitting there and going through site be site, will never work. Turning off a few big porn sites will be like plugging one hole in a sieve and using it as a bucket.

Doesn't mean they won't try and spend money, losing the battle.
