Defeated Green Party candidate Jill Stein is asking for recounts in Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania where Mr Trump won narrow victories.

The next US President wrote on Twitter that the "badly defeated and demoralized" Democrats were now joining the Green Party campaign for recounts.

He said: "The Democrats, when they incorrectly thought they were going to win, asked that the election night tabulation be accepted. Not so anymore!"

Will the recounts change anything?

If Mr Trump's victories in all three states are overturned then the election would tip in Mrs Clinton's favour.

This is because the three states offered a total of 46 votes in the all-important Electoral College.

Overall Mr Trump won 370 Electoral College votes, well above the winning threshold of 270 and Mrs Clinton's 232.

But it is extremely unlikely that the recounts will uncover enough evidence of electoral fraud to overturn the results.

For Ms Clinton to win all three states, it thought that she would require a swing of more than 100,000 votes across the three states.

Mr Trump won Wisconsin by just over 22,500 votes, Michigan by about 10,700 votes and Pennsylvania by slightly more than 68,000.

Even Ms Stein and Mrs Clinton's campaign have admitted that the recounts are unlikely to chance the outcome of the US election 2016.

The Green Party candidate said: "These recounts are part of an election integrity movement to attempt to shine a light on just how untrustworthy the US election system is."

Pretty sure it's illegal for a US candidate to accept donations from foreign sources. Wait, didn't Barry donate as well? Seems like someone needs to investigate Jill Steins donation drive. Foreign entities are interfering with the elections it appears after all

Crowd sourced grassroots non tax deductable donations for a vote recount movement are not tax deductible donations for a candidate running for office. Different accounts. Different goals.

Do you have proof she used separate accounts? Also, she is a candidate demanding a recount. Not a "movement" She used the crowd sourcing idea to raise funds for what she is doing as a candidate. From the looks of it it was all done through her campaign site/billing. It's going to get looked into. I'm already in the process of making sure of that.

Trump lost by nearly 3 million votes at this point. "If" it turns out there was "miss counts" or fraud in these 3 states his loss will be even greater. You start getting up to 4 million or 5 and time to question the EC's reliability.

This would then require the EC to consider not voting for him given that the "majority" of voters did not vote for him and that "majority" number is growing daily as all votes are counted. Added to this the only reason Trump won many of the "battle ground" states is because they have been gerrymandered to fuck and back.

This is why the "popular vote" no longer matches the EC vote, because many areas of Florida for instance should of been Democrat, but have been rigged until they turn red by drawing lots of fantastic lines on the maps to make certain area part of other voting districts..

Basically Republican have cheated the system in states they control like FL for example. In 4 votes I voted in 4 different districts while living at the same address.. Why? Because that area was "always" blue and the Republican run shit hole of a state kept redrawing the lines until it finally turned red they election.
