Decorated Republican Elector Vows To Vote Against Donald Trump

A true American here. Do you think more elite Electors will come forward?

What do you think about them creating ?The Electors Trust? ? I think that's a huge red flag that something big is brewing with the elite Electors.

----

Decorated Republican Elector Vows To Vote Against Donald Trump | The Huffington Post

?I owe no debt to a party. I owe a debt to my children to leave them a nation they can trust,? he wrote.

?The election of the next president is not yet a done deal,? he wrote. ?Electors of conscience can still do the right thing for the good of the country. Presidential electors have the legal right and a constitutional duty to vote their conscience.?

A Republican member of the Electoral College from Texas has promised to vote against Donald Trump during the college?s meeting Dec. 19, saying the president-elect ?shows daily he is not qualified for office.?

In an op-ed published Monday in The New York Times, Christopher Suprun, a paramedic and first responder to the Pentagon on Sept. 11, laid out a lengthy list of concerns about Trump

To support anti-Trump Electoral College members, Harvard University law professor Larry Lessig announced on Monday he will launch ?The Electors Trust,? which will provide free counsel to those seeking to oppose Trump in states where doing so may be illegal, Politico reports. The platform is also intended to help electors gauge whether there?s enough support to prevent Trump from becoming president.

I am not sure how it works....i thought he was put in place to follow the wishes of those he serves? as in the people who voted. is he saying he doesn't need to follow those wishes and will do anything he wants?

Bladewire 12-05-2016 10:00 PM

The Founders wrote the Constitution's 12th amendment for a reason. To deny the presidency to a Demagogue.

Some states have passed illegal laws that "force" the elector to vote the same as the majority, which is against the 12th amendment.

"Backers of Hamilton Electors are also preparing a wave of lawsuits challenging 29 state laws that purport to bind electors to the results of the statewide popular vote. These laws have never been enforced or tested, and many constitutional scholars believe they conflict with the Founders? vision of the Electoral College as a deliberative body. Courtroom victories, they hope, will embolden other electors to join their cause."

The US Constitution doesn't require EC electors to vote for any specific person...they can vote for the winner of their state, or someone else.

There are some states that have fines for those that vote against the wishes of the people, but my understanding is that the fines are pretty small and they have never actually been handed out to anyone.

Long shot. Even though I know you'd love for this to come true I'm not really sure you would. Electoral map is Red in farmland USA where I can't drive for 5 minutes off the expressway without seeing a pro-gun sign in a farmers field. Don't think it would pan out well if it was overturned as think the violence would be much much worse than the protests we've already seen. I personally don't own a gun but just the thought of what one of my buddies who was a sniper in desert storm would do scares me, let's just say the contents of his garage would scare Rambo. You can post an occasional link now to a single whackjob Trump supporter that locks and loads now but if shit was overturned it wouldn't just be one occasional guy we'd need 2 Brass Monkey Death News Networks. :2 cents:

Generally speaking they should vote according to the wishes of the people of their state. There is no requirement to do so. It is rare for them to do this, however.

Its not just one Elite elector, 3 others have quit rather than vote Trump. Many others have been meeting and discussing an anti-Trump vote strategy. Some are saying this guy volunteered to go public to see the publics reaction and gauge their next move.

The electoral college decides the election on December 19th. Trump lost the election to Clinton by over 2.5 million votes. What would be overturned by them voting Clinton the winner on the 19th? Nothing

I think the Republicans threatening to terrorize, shoot & blow up stuff really shows how much they hate freedom and the majority voting Clinton for POTUS. Terroristic threats if you don't vote for our guy against the will of the majority of Americans. See how that looks?

It's done for a fraction of the costs in other places.

In the UK we have politicians opposing the results of a referendum. The whole thing is in the Supreme Court and if they say it goes through Parliament. Politicians can make Brexit impossible. Which is what the people want and increasingly the people of Europe want.

The election was based on electoral votes for both of the candidates. So they both went out with the same rules and did their thing and Trump won with less money, less good press and his own party against him. This would be fact. :2 cents:

You seem to have a comprehension problem or just straight trolling as he didn't lose shit as the election was never based on go out and get the popular vote.

Rewind the clock and tell them both to go get the popular vote and he would have just pulled up...

https://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Li..._by_population

and just started from the top of the most populous states and worked down meaning he would have spent all his time in big cities and wouldn't have gone and talked to a crowd that contained 200 people and 3 donkeys in it in farmland USA. He did that cause it's based on electoral so he understood the objective more than her along with being underrated as he doesn't stand a chance to win cause the media says so. So now you sit there in shock like pathetic losers wondering how he pulled it off and look for tampering fraud excuses. We'll the people came out and said fuck your polls were tired of career crooked politicians. I'm sure some votes weren't huge Trump supporters but more of anyone but Hillary. :2 cents:

Not like it was a 270 to 269 win, they both were given the same rules and he went out and kicked her ass. Even if it was 270 to 269 I'd still call it kicking her ass as he shouldn't have stood a chance but that's what happens when people get tired of the same old bullshit and you underrate someone. I'd be embarrassed to say I voted for Hillary after this ass whooping. :2 cents:

He is straight stupid. And he is not trolling on this one, he genuinely thinks Trump "lost" because he lost the popular vote which neither of the candidates targeted.

As stupid as it gets :1orglaugh

Just out of curiosity, if the situation were exactly flipped and Hillary won a slight victory in the Electoral College, but Trump won the popular vote, would you be hoping for the electors to switch to Trump?

Just trying to decide if it is the Electoral College you are more angry with or Trump.
