NEW YORK (AP) -- The government should cancel its multibillion-dollar order for new Air Force One presidential planes, Donald Trump declared Tuesday, serving notice he's ready to jump in and start making decisions six weeks before his inauguration.

Costs for the two Boeing 747s are "totally out of control," Trump told reporters in the lobby of his New York skyscraper.

The government has contracted with Boeing to build the planes, which would go into service around 2024. That means Trump wouldn't fly on the aircraft, which carry U.S. presidents around the globe, unless he pursued and won a second term. But the Air Force has pressed for a faster schedule, saying the current version is becoming too expensive to repair and keep in good flying shape.

The contract for the planes was to be about $3 billion, but costs have been reported to be rising. Trump tweeted early Tuesday, "Boeing is building a brand new 747 Air Force One for future presidents, but costs are out of control, more than $4 billion. Cancel order!"

Later, he said the costs are ridiculous: "I think Boeing is doing a little bit of a number. We want Boeing to make a lot of money, but not that much money."

The price of Boeing stock dipped after his comments but not drastically. Trump had tweeted in 2013 that he owned Boeing stock, but a spokesman said Tuesday he sold all of his stocks in June.

But anti-Trump people never listened to his actual speeches. They just watched the news and had talking heads tell them what THEY wanted them to hear.

The actual meat of Trump's speeches was never reported on. But apparently the working people of the U.S. DID take the time to listen to what Trump actually said.

In my car, i bounce between CNN, MSNBC, FOX, BBC and occasionally NPR on satellite radio. CNN and others were constantly airing people saying and talking about how "he has no plan" and that became the narrative that was always repeated, while on FOX they were constantly talking about his plan.

It should not matter if a person heard those speeches or not - announcement of president saying something like that is too expensive should only be greate either positively, or neutrally (as worst case scenario). Yet some morons are so delusional and brainwashed that they manage to take it as a negative thing.

You are correct. I hate Trump with a passion. This is not about politics; This is about Trump.

Trump doesn't understand what Air Force One is and the costs involved. This is not an airplane - this is a flying White House. The specifications of Air Force One is staggering. It has to support a huge staff for week long trips - his staff, his military staff, medical staff, and the press corps. In the event of an emergency (think Operation Looking Glass) Air Force Once might be required to stay in the air without touching ground for days at a time - it has to be able to refuel in air.

This is expensive. This is the most expensive airplane in the world.

Wait until Trump finds out how much it costs for him to travel. The President not only takes his motorcade with him when he travels to another country, but also multiple helicopters. A friend of mine is a local Sheriff who works the President's motorcade when he travels to Northern California, and her daughter works in the White House travel department - it's utterly amazing what goes into a trip.

Of course if Trump was concerned about saving the US taxpayers money, he would quick vacate Trump Tower so the US Secret Service doesn't have to protect it.

Where should he go? Go ahead and kick the black guy out? Won't they have to protect anywhere he goes?
