How can I charge my laptop when the battery has died?

Remove battery. Google the pin out to where the battery connects. Find the voltage. Look for a powerpack you have that has the same output voltage. Cut off the end of powerpack and note which wires are positive and negative and tape them + & - so you know. Hook up aligator clips and connect them to the specs of the pinout. Enjoy.

Sorry, I figured you were trolling. Your trick may work with old school battery chemistry like lead acid or NiCd, but modern cells need careful monitoring (including temperature to prevent thermal runaway) to safely charge them. You cannot abuse them like a NiCd battery.
