Finally, I fixed the google analytics spam problem
So for the past couple years at least I would be seeing all sorts of ghost traffic, referral spam, spoofed domains and garbage showing up in my google analytics.
I'm sure many of you have seen it, lots of xyz stuff, sharebutton, ilovitality or things like that. I've tried many things, blocked so many and then new ones would appear. I blocked strings, new ones would appear. It was so annoyng. Last month I did something a little different. I filtered out ALL of Russia. Since then, not a single bit of analytics spam. None. That's the fix. lol. It works perfectly. |
But Russia converts so well! You're leaving a lot of money on the table /sarc

Quite a big IP list though?
|
nice to know :)
|
add china too

Easy to use blocklists if one needs them, and regularly maintained.
This site has some great, constantly updated lists as well, and work flawlessly with fail2ban. Some are pretty lengthy though, so use with caution. |
Word comin' out of the U.S. today is Russia's been attempting hacks on our Canadian hydro companies.
Fuckin' ruskies...still sore we beat their asses on ice back in '72. |
This is interesting.....noting it. So wehn i see 12,000,000 kb in my weblogs with AT&T IP are you telling me it serves as Russian/ Chinese proxy??

This referral spam doesn't to your site at all, rather it pings your Analytics code UA-XXXXX directly to the Google server with custom referer, IP, user agent etc etc variables. Blocking IPs to your site won't help will it?

You do it in the filter part and it's not a big list, you can actually just choose to filter out by country. Just pick Russia and watch as the spam vanishes before your very eyes. :) |
