Trump slapped with federal lawsuit in New York
Have a great day!
New York (AFP) - A group of American lawyers on Monday filed a federal lawsuit in New York against Donald Trump, accusing the US president of violating a constitutional ban on accepting payments from foreign governments. Trump dismissed the suit as "totally without merit." The Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) is pursuing Trump over his vast business holdings, from which the billionaire has refused to divest fully, saying that as president he can have no conflict of interest. The decision not to divest has drawn fire from Democratic Party opponents and the government watchdog on ethics. CREW says Trump's business properties abroad operate based partly on goodwill from foreign governments and regulators, but that under the US Constitution no federal official can receive a gift or "emolument" from a foreign government. "Never before have the people of the United States elected a president with business interests as vast, complicated, and secret as those of Donald J. Trump," said the 37-page lawsuit. article... |
We're going to be hearing his canned answer "totally without merit" quite a lot the next 4 years. Sorry Donald, but some of this shit probably has some merit.
Sounds like someone is in denial about how shady he actually is. |

"A private citizen may sue the President over alleged actions undertaken before or independently of the Presidential office. When the President acts on the authority of his office in any way, he is shielded by the doctrines of immunity." This action will be dismissed as it was a lawful activity when it was done. So as long as the lease terms remain the same there is no case. (IF) It's a lease in normal commerce ... Why wouldn't it be? Again intent; If a sitting president leased the state of New Hampshire to an oil sheik for $5 billion a year and put the money in his numbered swiss bank account -- that would be illegal -- extreme example but very clear. Trump is making real mistakes that will bite back in the end -- give it time. |
