An Epidemic of Amazon Fake Reviews !!!!!!!!

I buy a lot of stuff online due to my remote location. Mostly Amazon, and i am noticing that there are more and more fake reviews.

This site ( Fakespot.com) seems to have some sort of verification algorithm that helps weed out the fake reviews. I tested it today on 20 or so items i was about to order and 5 are flagged with more than 50% faked reviews. They also have a site where you can add the item you are looking for and a list of trusted reviews for a number of products appears. (Trustwerty | Home)

Now i am sure they are out to make $$$$ and like any site its also possible this may also be fake reviews but it does seem to weed out the customers who give 5 star reviews and only have 1 review in their history which is always suspect. Maybe it can sort out the fake Chump news from the real :2 cents:

I usually look at a reviewer and see if they have a lot of other reviews. If they do, I read a couple and I can usually tell if they're full of shit and just shilling for someone.

On Amazon you can specify "See all verified purchase reviews" and you will cut out a lot of the crap.

I was going to buy an item the other day, had 5 stars and 300+ reviews, I clicked that button and only one was left lol - 99.99% were fake.

You never know when buying online, even if the product has good/real reviews. Life is more interesting that way :D

Not only the fake reviews, but the fake products.

From memory sticks to power cords for your phone. You can try to buy a Belkin power cord and end up with a cheap Chinese knockoff real easy.

yep that's what i do after noticing people puting up pictures of the item and having a paragraph stating how they love it.
And noticing the same thing on different items with only a couple words in the paragraph changed but basiclly the same review

Sadly verified purchase means nothing, you have to go to each reviewer and see how many reviews they have. Its possible and probable that sellers will by 2,3 even a dozen of their own products. and under different names post five star reviews. The fakespot system weeds out these single 5 Star reviews when giving its rating. Saves you a ton of searching.

"verified reviews" are not always real either. I am very active in number of groups on Facebook, mostly in Alienware and Microsoft Surface groups. Every now and then someone will hit me up on Facebook and say "I have a new case for the Microsoft Surface" and they will set it up so I can buy it for $1 if I promise to give a detailed review with pictures. Because people are getting (more or less) free stuff, they usually give good reviews.
