Look at the big picture.. it's a ploy keeping his wife there because it means Trump can get away with going to the Trump Tower where his "business" is run from. It also means there will be secret service stationed there 24/7. meaning free security at tax payers expense and ability to secretly do shit with his business.

It's extremely obvious as to why he's keeping her locked up there with the son..

In the interview Trump mentioned her coming over on Thursdays (if I recall correctly) and staying for the weekend. So almost half a week.
Ps: He is a player, not a family type so not sure what is the big deal, especially when he has such a work load.

Coming from someone who attended 12 different schools in 13 years of grade schooling let me tell you it isn't easy. Especially switching in the middle of the school year. In addition it's a new day and age. Even though we are together my other half and I live separately. Our son spends some nights with me and some with her. She doesn't want to live here because with 12,000sf to cover it drives her OCD mad and her OCD drives me mad so the compromise is she has her place and I have mine...
