I love the car but I hate the low range on it and the fact it's not a full on EV. If they get this full on EV with a range in the 300-400km I will seriously consider getting one.

Same here. I would LOVE this car if it were pure EV. They could save so much weight and space by stripping out all of the ICE components and swapping it for more batteries. Plus the technology for 300-400km range has existed for years now. It's time to drop the gas engine already.

Meh. I used to but not anymore. I understand the thrill, the "power" that sounds like, but you know what? I don't care for it anymore because its fake. The sound you're hearing is wasted energy, hot air and pollution. To me, the "whirrrrrrrrrr" of an electric car is so much sexier to me now because its cleaner, faster, and so much more efficient.

On a side note: Formula E coming to Montreal this summer! Woohoo!

on the track it's mostly useless, after 2-3 laps the batteries are empty and then you're stuck with the 3 cylinder engine alone. but otherwise it's pretty slick

What is fake? I am not talking about sounds from speaker.. I mean the real car sounds of a good hefty V engine.

Yes. The sound of the engine you hear inside the I8 is fake, but thats not what I meant.

When it comes to the sound from a real V8, or any other engine, the sound that it makes, is "fake". From a strictly scientific point of view, The exhaust is pouring out noise, air and heat that is wasted energy. The louder it is, the more energy is being wasted.

I totally get the allure of the engine sound. Car makers spend alot of money and time to get the sound to sound the way it does, so they clearly get it too. I used to love it, but I don't anymore.

I love my i8.

It's a hybrid, so those talking about it not being electric aren't getting it. Sure, of course it would be awesome if it was fully electric with a long charge. It would also be awesome with a v8. It's neither, it's a hybrid. One can hardly differentiate the fake sound on the inside, in fact, I'd say I like it and I've owned all kinds of sports cars. I get about 45 mpg city and a lot more on the highway. I drove from Detroit to Toronto and back on 11 gallons. It recharges the battery at high speeds on the highway.

Did I mention it's sexy as fuck, too? Sometimes it gets a little annoying with people taking pictures, videos and trying to engage in conversations. Mostly though, all the smiles it makes are fun.

I often agree with you Mark but not this time....
Id much rather get behind the wheel of my 458 Italia than any of the pure electrics I have driven, hands down. The engine sound is part of the driving experience.

I have an M4, it's a great machine, probably the best car I've owned and top 5 cars I've driven in my life. I still would rather have the i8 but I would want it fully EV.

850 was v12, 6 series is just v8 :)
