TOKYO – North Korea fired a ballistic missile Sunday morning, its first launch in four months and the first since Donald Trump was elected president of the United States.

The launch happened while Trump was hosting Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe at his golf resort in Florida, and analysts said that the hawkish Abe will likely push Trump issue a strong rebuke.

“I don’t think this is designed to respond to Trump, I think this is part of Kim’s continued efforts to try to advance his programs,” said Jon Wolfsthal, a senior non-proliferation official in the Obama administration now at Harvard’s Belfer Center. “But it has the added effect of calling Trump’s bluff. The real question is not what North Korea has done, but what the U.S. is going to do about it,” Wolfsthal said.

The missile was fired shortly before 8 a.m. from a known test site in North Pyongan province in the west of the country, not far from the border with China, and flew over the Korean peninsula and into the Sea of Japan, South Korea’s joint chiefs of staff said.

The people of North Korea should not be amalgamated with their dictator. In the same way, there are many smart, cultivated and polite Americans, although their president is vulgar, egocentric and completely disconnected from the real world.

NK can't take on the West or any of its allies. This firing was to test a product they sell to other nations. It was a decent test and sales will come from it.

Without China and Russia on America's side nothing much will happen. The problem is all the agencies providing NK with food. Just enough to stop the Army turning on the rulers.

Should the food stop feeding the Army, NK will change.

The people of North Korea will be happier without him, and hopefully it doesn't take a nuke, just a pinpoint strike. 10 years after Kim, they'll be a new economic "tiger" and re-united with the south.

They say they can, but they'd fuck it up under pressure. They'll have 30 minutes notice when the US goes into action, and they'll be too surprised to know what to do. The missile engineers just won't obey the order, most likely.
