I watched it. The first 40 minutes or so, were a top notch.

Drama movies about race and slavery: Guaranteed oscar.

Drama movie about a black kid, who is gay on top of that - TWO minorities covered - Oscar triggermeter went through the roof!

What i found the most appalling was the woman in her speech, with the two kids standing next to her, and she said "This little black boy and this little brown girl" bla bla bla.

I think one of the reasons I've always been confounded by people who are afraid of difference is that in my family I am different. I'm really white. My dad is white, my mom is Mi'kmaq. I'm halfbreed, but aside from the fact that I don't burn ever or get wrinkles no matter how much I smoke and eat improperly or wear sunscreen only at the beach there is really no evidence of my maternal ancestry. I walk into a store in my scrub attire and no one follows me.

I see peeps who look like me everywhere, from the lowest lows to the highest echelons. Neutral. Certainly not an interest group.

I've had privilege up the wazoo that has been of benefit to me. privilege that was and is never afforded to most of the people I care about about and I find that unfair

there's no hatred of self in recognizing this

nor is there logic in seeing the narratives of peeps of different skin or culture as being different from me in any meaningful way other than, being different from me personally. so yeah don't get the fuss and refuse to play some contrived zero sum game
