Serious Question - How do stop being an addict / dependent etc??
This is a serious question so please refrain from the usual bullshit.
What I would like to know is how you change your life and stop being something you don't really want to be. For example. This could include alcohol dependency, sex addiction, serial troll etc. |
You take the battery out of your phone and walk out the fucking door.

You have to replace your addiction with another less destructive addiction, sometimes addictions can even be positive, like the guy who was addicted to creating that game called Minecraft, made him some good sales I hear

Try posting on forums more often. That will help you get rid of the addiction.

I like to drink while I post and i NORMALLY SEARCH PORN. Perhaps post #2 had a point. |
You have to want it bad enough. I've been hooked on drugs, smoking, and drinking. Eventually I quit them all.
Smoking was the hardest. The drugs was mostly heroin and cocaine, and that was solved by joining the Marines - can't do drugs at Paris Island. The drinking was easy, just a matter of making that choice. Smoking.... Took me years. |

I like drinking but I know I am dependent. I know I am a sex addict but i enjoy it. I enjoy trolling. How the fuck do you walk away from the things you love? EDIT: So far no one gets hurt doing what I do (at least I don't think so). |

the best odds are achieved via SUPPORT GROUP as it is hard to overcome lifetime bad habits alone. nobody accomplishes getting off meth by staying home alone & watching breaking bad. get away from the people, places & things that trigger bad attitudes & behaviors. an addict must remind themselves they are addicted & it takes effort to stay clean. takes more mental effort to stay clean than to use, for sure. need to wait that chemical withdrawal shit out. for weeks..thats why rehabs are relaxing places in the boonies. & must remind themselves they are still addicts, regularly until years pass, & even then, relapse is a careless decision away...which is why support group is the best long term results. that reminder factor. addicts always forget they are addicts eventually, fall down. AA NA MA GA whatever A, works when you work it. :2 cents: |
It depends on what you are talking about. If it is a real addiction then there is no real cure for it. What you have to do is figure out how to manage it. Alcoholics are alcoholics for life. The ones that stop drinking are the ones that figure out how to recognize the things that trigger them and make them want to drink then they avoid those things and they learn how to turn that addiction energy towards something different and hopefully more positive. For example, I know a guy who traded booze for working out. He is now addicted to working out and running marathons and stuff like that, but that is a hell of a lot better than booze.
If it is just something you enjoy, but you know is bad for you, then it is a matter of having the willpower to turn away from it and do it less. Again, I would suggest trying to replace it with something or things that are better for you or more positive in nature than the bad thing. |
Kill yourself and end it immediately. God speed to you! http://68.media.tumblr.com/340363780...z169o1_500.jpg |
if the OP wants the doctor version of addiction treatment, look into this...
https://psychcentral.com/lib/in-dept...ioral-therapy/ :2 cents: |
Get a taser, every time you get an urge zap your sack three times in a row..you wont have any dependencies after that
|
Make friends with people who don't do those things, and who are fun to go out with?
Just a random idea. Or if it's a drug thing, maybe piss off your dealer a bit so that you can't get any anymore, but not so much that he'll hurt you or anything?.... :upsidedow |

Start by banishing the thoughts about these things you don't want in your life and see where that goes.
|
Find some hobbies, kill your free time with them.
|
12 Steps.
|
Simple, replace it with another addiction which dont have bad effects. After all that is how heroin addicts are threated.

Stop expecting other people to fix your shit for you, like you just did with this thread. Take responsibility for your own actions. |

Just don't do it. If you can't, then you're a useless pussy with no willpower and should eliminate yourself from the gene pool in the name of natural selection. Go to amazon.com and search for books on how to develop willpower. |

Once i realized heroin wasn't doing much good for me, i made a decision to quit. Stayed home, got thru withdrawals, stopped buying any more. Get your priorities straight. Piriod. |
Addicts are usually running away from a bigger problem that the addiction hides. Cure the real problem and the addiction will drop.

If you never cure the emotional problems you have prior to any addiction, you will never be released from the addiction and will always come back or find a new addiction. You must focus on why you are really so miserable or emotionally disturbed, and correct those issues first. After that, the addiction will cure itself. The human body is amazing when you free your mind of emotional pain. Once you are free of the emotional problems, it is much easier to cleanse out your body and stay clean forever, because there is no longer the need for the addiction and or the artificial endorphin rush or medicating the depression. Just staying clean and sober doesn't mean you are emotionally stable, and those addicts are always at risk of the relapse because they never cured their emotional problems first. They are the ones that "blame the booze" etc. Which is far from the case. Free your mind and your ass will follow. Good luck. |
