So far what they have released looks like a mess. It does nothing to deal with the rising costs of the healthcare which is the main problem with the healthcare industry as a whole. Also, it does little to keep people from just not buying insurance until they are sick or hurt then dropping it once they are well again. Not to mention, it may severely hurt the poor.

It will be interesting to see how people react once all the details are released. I have a feeling this may just be the first of potentially many drafts.

The states will have to cut Medicaid or raise state taxes or individual counties will have to raise money with higher property taxes -- renters have property tax increases passed through in rent hikes.

Costs will just be transfered to the states.

You will be taxed to pay for the lower income groups and the poor. Your costs if you are not subsided will go up it you are over 35. Meantime, Trump wants $54 Billion more for the military.

what would happen if many people drop or are refused insurance? Hospitals would lose money on unpaid and charitable care rendered and have to further increase their rates to the insured and those that can pay. This will trigger a severe healthcare cost inflation spiral. 20%+ per year. Employers that offer insurance will also see their prices rise sharply.

This is why this is a strawman. The Republicans will not have 100% support in their own party and 0% support from the Democrats. The bill is probably DOA in its first 'Ryan' incarnation.

Hospitals, Drugs, Equipment, Insurance companies all take a slice off the top to pay shareholders. Great in a service where competition has a huge effect, awful when there is no competition. Build up the State Healthcare to a point where the Private owned are out of business.

This is one hot potato that will cost a lot of seats in the house. The proposed changes will not go into effect until calendar year 2018 -- that is the mid-terms election year.

I never used an insurance card in my LIFE to go to the doctor or even the hospital...until the last 8 years.

I paid out of pocket. A doctors visit wasn't that expensive. Pharmaceuticals however were already 5 and 6 times more expensive here than anyplace else on Earth.

Now? With millions getting govt. subsidized health insurance? The price gouging got exponentially worse.

Think about it...if you had a medical supply company and the govt. suddenly opened the gates to UNLIMITED money...you would raise your prices by 300% right away.

Based on what has been released today in the plan....since I have a pre-existing condition, and I'm not old enough to qualify for medicare, my insurance rates can be multiplied 5X over what a normal healthy person could get for rates. I also don't make enough on my pension from my company to qualify for tax credits, so the $1200 a month I currently pay (which is the currently allowed 3X ACA ceiling for preexisting conditions) will become approx $2000 a month. :thumbsup

It's unreal. The difference in pricing for heart bypass surgery is astounding for instance.
You can buy a first class round trip ticket, stay in a 5 star hotel, get the procedure done and it still costs less than 1/4 of what it costs here in the U.S.

And do people do it? Hell yes they do.

If you ever get the chance to go to Tijuana...you'll see it first hand.

The whole town is slammed with doctors offices and pharmacies. Every kind of elective surgery you can think of is done there at far, far less than in the U.S.

And most of the doctors live in San Diego (U.S. doctors) and have offices in Tijuana.

People come there from all over the United States to get procedures done.

Plus you can walk into a pharmacy and buy Cialis, Viagra, testosterone, etc. OVER THE COUNTER with no prescription needed. And it's 1/10th the price of the United States.

We have been getting ripped off since at least the 1970's.

I remember reading news articles on this back in the mid-1980's when there was a big story about people going to Canada and back just to buy their prescription medication.
Back then they were taking busloads of people across the Canadian border and back...just to go to the pharmacy.

I don't need healthcare for the routine stuff. I am forty-eight years old, and while I am (still) over weight I never get sick and can't remember the last time I saw a doctor. It must have been about six years ago, for a routine check up (only because I hadn't had one in a long time), and they told me the only issue I had was a slight potassium deficiency and I knew that before the blood work.

My wife is similar, although she gets sick, but never sick enough to see a doctor.

My kid has had a few problems but nothing serious and nothing we couldn't handle without insurance. In fact, she broke her arm while I was unemployed in 2009 (?) and we paid for everything out of our own pockets. It wasn't nearly as much as one would think. We had an initial appointment, an x-ray, and they put a cast on. We had a follow up appointment, another x ray, and then weekly physical therapy for two months at $65 each.

This might be a good idea Robbie... You only need insurance if you end up in the hospital for something serious.

Some of us can afford a $15,000 deductible. Most people can't -- especially families with children.

All healthcare insurance policies should include low copays for semiannual checkups and needed tests.
