Stop calling it VR when it's not

VR is virtual reality. It means everything is an artificial world and the viewer can move wherever they want, change camera angle, etc.

If you are recording something it's not virtual, it's real. Virtual is computer generated.

A 3D camera is not VR. It's 3D.

Stop using the term VR.

They aren't confusing the terms. They are using it correctly. The adult world is not. See infographic I added above.

Those devices support both 3D/360 videos as well as VR.

Ferus 03-07-2017 02:53 PM

Nobody gives a fuck. We are here for the tits and $

MaDalton 03-07-2017 04:17 PM

No....

See sig.

Bladewire 03-07-2017 04:22 PM

VR in the consumer gadget industry is like cuck is to porn.

The industry totally bastardizes the original definition for something close that's easier to make money off of.

It is a good point, actually.

XMaster 03-08-2017 02:21 AM

Absolutely right.

ContentBay 03-08-2017 02:35 AM

Stop calling Indians Indians. They are not from India...but 600 years later, who gives a fuck, they are still called Indians...

candyflip 03-08-2017 05:03 AM

If you're gonna make a point, at least be correct. It's not 3D either. There's nothing 3D about it. Its 360 degrees field of view.

starling 03-08-2017 05:47 AM

Badoink3dbutforusewithyourvrheadset .com sounds better

AndyA 03-08-2017 09:29 AM

Yes sir I'll get right on that

DownThePoole 03-08-2017 09:41 AM

Never saw anyone confusing the two.

correct, this is what I was going to say.

Infact, most of the videos on these "VR" porn sites are actually only 180 degrees... :thumbsup

Colmike9 03-08-2017 11:28 AM

That's why I'm promoting 3d VR porn, full rendered VR. Not saying that 360/180s aren't good, but I don't want to make a wall of text explaining differences. :upsidedow

The Porn Nerd 03-08-2017 11:36 AM

I can barely deal with "reality" let alone anything "virtual".

PR_Glen 03-08-2017 11:45 AM

next you are going to try to tell us that interracial is not only black men with white women...

MakingItPay 03-08-2017 06:42 PM

I agree with the virtual world vs. 360 video. However, I always took it to mean, the reality you are experiencing is not your own, so they use a bit of poetic license. But technically, I believe you to be correct.

I haven't really watched them as I don't have the hardware but I thought most of them were stereoscopic, no? If it's not, then it's just really wide angle video.

Relic 03-09-2017 03:07 PM

haha i had a good chuckle after this. OP you're not technically wrong I guess, but I'd say it was coined VR porn more for the delivery than anything. You really can't watch a 360 video and enjoy it without a VR headset so that's probably why it was dubbed VR porn you know? Just to add, even 180 degree videos "feel real" while watching, even if you can turn your head and see black screen. You'd be surprised how well 180/360 video tricks your brain into thinking its right in front of you.

source: i actually own one LOL

We'll have the same discussion when holographic (HoloLens) porn becomes a thing and some pedant points out that it's not real holograms.

3D stereo video is also not really 3D, but dual 2D images creating the illusion of 3D in the viewer.

It's true that the person who invented the term 'virtual reality' was building headsets that presented digitally generated worlds, but back then (the 1970's) there was no 360 video.

Also, when vr porn is recorded in lightfield it may be possible to move around the (recorded) scene.

The distinction between digital and recorded will likely become blurred as the tech advances.
