AARP says Republicare = sweatheart deal for special interests ?unaffordable age tax,?

No big surprise here.. The Republican proposed replacement for Obamacare = a home run for insurance companies and AARP (old people shit Baddog will understand) apposes it. They call it a ?unaffordable age tax,?...

AARP announced its opposition to the Republican proposal that would repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act (ACA), arguing that it would ?weaken Medicare? and give special interests a ?sweetheart deal.?

But the group?s primary concern is for people who haven?t yet reached retirement age, highlighting one of the biggest problems with the GOP?s plan to use tax credits in lieu of Obamacare subsidies. As proposed, the plan does not offer enough to help older people pay for what would become much more expensive coverage if the subsidies are scrapped and the GOP?s proposals to relax current age-based caps on premiums go through.

Under the Republican proposal to offer refundable tax credits, the older and poorer you are, the bigger the check you?ll get from the IRS. Someone who?s 64 -- too young for Medicare -- would be eligible for a $4,000 tax credit to buy a plan.

But AARP notes that the average premium for a person in his or her early 60s would be thousands of dollars more than that, if the current 3:1 ?age rating? rules capping premiums for older participants are relaxed to 5:1. Under the ACA, older Americans can be charged no more than three times what younger participants with same kind of coverage are charged. The new plan would allow insurers to charge older Americans five times what they charge younger participants.

Comparing the GOP plan for tax cuts and a 5:1 age rating with the subsidies now offered under Obamacare, AARP estimates that an unmarried 64-year-old making $15,000 a year -- assuming they live in a state that has not expanded Medicaid -- would see their premiums go up $8,400 a year.

For this reason, AARP calls the bill an ?unaffordable age tax,? and says it will have a disproportionately negative impact on poorer, middle-aged Americans.

Republican lawmakers are also drawing opposition from conservative advocacy groups.

Heritage Action said of the House GOP proposal that it ?not only accepts the flawed progressive premises of Obamacare but expands upon it.? And Americans for Prosperity and Freedom Partners, both Koch-affiliated groups wrote to House Speaker Paul Ryan to say that they ?cannot support? what they referred to as ?Obamacare 2.0.?

Club for Growth slammed the bill for failing to offer ?the critical free-market solution of selling health insurance across state lines? and called it a ?warmed-over substitute for government-run health care.? If the bill remains unchanged, ?the Club for Growth will key vote against it,? a statement from the group said.

Exactly what I warned about yesterday here...my current (Im over 60 but don't qualify for Medicare yet) premium is 1200 a month for single...it would rise to 2500 a month under this plan...and $4k a year credit isnt going to help that one bit

More importantly...Conservative Republicans will never pass this in congress...it's just a renamed subsidy from ACA - why are we so stuck on giving welfare instead of controlling costs - oh yeah...because it benefits the insurance companies :321GFY:321GFY

This is what the Trumpsters voted for, to repeal Obamacare.. I wonder if the Baddog's of GFY will be happy with their vote when they have to pay over $2k/month to keep their insurance.

Something tells me the Robbie's of GFY will figure out a way to blame it on Obama but shifting blame sure wont help the Baddog's of GFY.. Robbie for example already believes Obamacare was crashing because Bill O'Reilly and Trump told him so... :1orglaugh

This is what the Trumplets voted for, take a big bite of shit boys.. You better enjoy it!

Robbie, Joshua G, Baddog, Vendizilla and company, will blame Obama, then Democrats, then the GOP and end up saying "It would have been 10x's worse with Hillary!"

But, no matter what, they will not admit that Trump lied about lowering the cost of their healthcare.

BTW, they just discovered that the bill cuts Medicaid for those 55 and older. In 2020 the federal subsidies are programmed to drop to the states and will be set at the much lower 2016 levels!

At any age, if you have healthcare and you pay late and it lapses, you can sign-up again at any time but you'll pay for the months that lapses and you weren't covered and your monthly premium is 30% more as a penalty! If you lapse again, you can sign-up again, but its an addtional 30% penalty! Imagine over a typical persons lifetime from 18 up how many times they'd lapse?

This is specifically done to fuck over people that are struggling financially or can't afford the premium. Very fucked up.

They know from a typical persons credit report how many times someone lapses in a bill. Another fucked up she'll game to put all these barriers in place so you INEVITABLY will pay more and "only you to blame" for not paying you master on time and being penalized. So fucked up.

Third-ranking GOP senator sees 30% penalty for insurance gaps as fairer than Obamacare's no-coverage tax

Yep exactly!

Also, no provisions at all to lower the cost of medications.

Rochard 03-08-2017 03:11 PM

This is a fucking joke. This is utterly fucking ridiculous.

They didn't repeal or replace anything. They just took about the best part - the government subsidies and replaced with a tax break. It will double the cost of healthcare and only give people a small break the following year which is utterly worthless. You can't double the cost of healthcare on a monthly basis and then say "Here is $2k off your taxes".

People will drop off of the Healthcare system, the prices will continue to rise, and all of the same exact problems that exist with our current healthcare system will still be there - lack of doctors, etc.

The only change is that our healthcare will cost A LOT MORE.

thommy 03-08-2017 03:14 PM

actually we europeans should say THANK YOU to the trump voters.
at the moment all this right nationalist parties are dropping significant in the polls.

wilders in holland on the way down - le pen in france on the way down - AFD in germany on the way down...

finnaly people have now with trump an example where such a "voters lesson" can end up.

The biggest problem with Obamacare is that it did nothing to lower the actual cost of healthcare (medication, doctor visits, lab tests etc.). This new bill also does nothing to lower costs. Trump says he is going to negotiate deals to lower costs, but I will wait until it actually happens before I believe it.

If there is ultimately nothing in this bill to reduce costs then it will end up being a version of Obamacare that costs people more and does less and eventually gets too expensive to handle.

pimpmaster9000 03-08-2017 03:26 PM

the solution is easy:

1) get congress and the insurers and the lobbyists and all the relevant people in a huge empty warehouse

2) give them exactly 24 hours to work out a system where they bring the prices down to a point where americans do not need health insurance OR they will get mowed down by apache helicopters when the time is up

3) if after the 24 hours the warehouse is full of dead bodies, find new congress and new insurance companies and relevant people and repeat 2)

4) congratulations you are now free :thumbsup:thumbsup

Bladewire 03-08-2017 03:52 PM

"64-year-old making $15,000 a year -- assuming they live in a state that has not expanded Medicaid -- would see their premiums go up $8,400 a year."

I mentioned this in Paul's "money for nothing" thread, yet had no idea this was proposed!

I agree with charging people 64 and older a he'll of lot more, then scaling back to paying a lot less when my generation takes power.

Paul's generation is trying to fuck over our generation. I've paid into Medicaid/Medicare my entire life and now they say Paul's generation was greedy and took that money to use for other things and now it will not be there for me when I retire, our generation is fucked for elderly care now :disgust

Fucker over the 64+ they've had a great long life but they've fucked us and don't deserve not to have a price to pay. Time to pay the piper 64+

Unfortunately Pauls generation has rigged the system so 80 year old John McCains and 70 year old president are clinging to power and won't let their generation suffer, they our fucking the rest of us over :disgust

My elderly health care plan equals move to Europe before I get too old.. I've just about given up on this country coming to it's senses. We have too much fucking idiots here that vote against basic fucking common sense because they are brainwashed by team politics.

Never in my life would I have thought there were so many fucking idiots who would vote for an imbecile like Trump.. Just utterly insane. The best part is now they will all cry and whine when they lose their healthcare but they will sill blame "liberals" fucking idiots.

The ONLY logical solution is medicare for all, regulate the cost of services and medicine. Of course will never happen as long as republicans have a say.

well private healthcare is also not that cheap in europe.
i have my present private insurance since around 25 years and it went from 200 ? when i started to 450 ? now. I have to pay 20% of all up to 5.000 ? per year over that it will be paid 100% from the insurance.
the good thing on this kind of insurance is that it is valid all over the planet and i can live wherever i want and they will pay.

in spain the insurances are much cheaper (but also all the drugs are a lot cheaper) and i thailand I could get a fullinsurance for around 180 ? per month (with the best medical care you can imagin).

so globalizm makes it possible that i can choose. trumpers will never understand how big the advantages of a global market are.

It would be at least 100 times worse if Hillary were elected and it's all Obama fault anyway.

It's obviously going to be Obama's fault when Robbie's health insurance cost $2k on Republicare..

trump has already fucked up more jobs as he promised to make.

the tourism industry is so fucked that they talk about 1 million jobs will go in the next 6-9 months. the transport industry is the next candidate. boeing possibly will lose the deal with china
for 6810 planes with a value of over 1 trillion dollars.
airlines are canceling international flights because the price dropped so dramatically (you can get flights from Germany to USA for 139 ? now and the planes are empty).

he will fuck the complete US economy within one year and hopefully, everyone has learned then, that he voted the rat to take care the cheese.

No they still will not get it, because nothing is ever their fault. They will claim liberals in Congress stopped Trump from MANGA. If not for the liberals he would've MANGA'd the world..

Has the health bill even been completed yet?

I thought that it was just presented in it's first draft and now begins the process of tweaking it in Congress and the Senate.

I think we need to see what it's going to end up as before the AARP can make pronouncements.
At least this time it's not being done in secret like it was done in 2009.

This cake isn't baked yet. There is no "bill" until they actually get it done and send it to the President to sign or veto.

Barry-xlovecam 03-08-2017 11:09 PM

For all the reasons cited above, this AHCA Bill is DOA on its first read. Also, Trump has taken ownership of the Bill as read -- political suicide (that is the only good thing).

brandonstills 03-08-2017 11:31 PM

Barry-xlovecam 03-09-2017 12:34 AM

I think you have to motion that the Bill be ''read'' into the record. Not reading literally -- published more precisely. I already have a copy of the actual bill titled: COMMITTEE PRINT
https://consumermediallc.files.wordp...lthcareact.pdf.

Quote:

COMMITTEE PRINT
Budget Reconciliation Legislative Recommendations Relating
to Repeal and Replace of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act
TITLE I—ENERGY AND

2
Subtitle A—Patient Access to
3

4

From all I can find so far; the out of pocket with the premium cost are still at the same cap value ( maximum out of pocket).

WTF are you talking about? "My people"???

Are you completely out of touch with reality? Did I somehow gain some kind of "Power" and Paul Ryan is now one of "my people"???

Damn, I think I'll call him up tomorrow and tell him I'd like prostitution made legal nationwide. And all drug laws are removed. Also all military comes home immediately from countries we have no business being in.
And also...I never want to pay taxes again.

LOL! That part I quoted of you insulting me is exactly why "your people" are so out of touch with the country and why "your people" are almost completely out of power nationwide.

It's also why you are unable to win in the arena of ideas or have an intelligent debate with me.

I simply pointed out a fact...bills becoming law doesn't work the way that you and CNN are suddenly fantasizing about. There is NO bill at the moment.

And instead of saying "Hey Robbie, you're right. I am just talking about something that I know nothing about because neither of us have even read the first draft....just listening to the media...who also haven't read it."

But nope.
You just jump right in with a stupid ass insult to me.

Disgusts me.
