Anybody uses collocation hosting?
I mean you buy your own equipment and keep it running in a data center for a fee. Lets say I want to set up a tube site with hosted clips and this could cost like $600 per month or more to host (cloud storage hosting, I am assuming, extendable, so the site or sites can grow, probably indefinitely).
Has anybody actually took the collocation hosting route, what are the savings and is this a good plan? I am located in Europe and something close to Germany could be good but the question can apply to all the parts of the world. Lets say you need a good extendable hosting for a large tube site (self hosted clips) and you want to save max amount of money on this. I guess collocation could be an answer, but would this work? What would be the costs, and so on? Thanks. |

Today, I host in the cloud ... secured and managed. I'm in the business of making money not supporting servers. |
I can do it all by myself, and you can also learn what is needed for the specific case. I have a self-managed hosting now and I only log in there one every three months to make a backup although I could do it even every day but this is not what is needed now (more or less). When you get managed hosting you can pay like $600 or more per month for a plan and I was thinking that the collocation could be something like $200 or $250, but I am not sure. If I would be able to save like $400 per month this would be very good for what I am doing right now. I am just starting on working on sites and I am not a person who has been doing this for 10 or 15 years with 500,000 of daily traffic or more or anything like that. I, in fact, work on just one site and I get around 350 people per day. I am basically trying to see how I could make some money off that, as this is the ultimate goal. The less costs the better, and the question is related to this. I was thinking about setting something up in Germany or something like that. Maybe I can even buy the equipment remotely and have it set up somewhere in the USA, I am not sure... I don't need it right at this moment, but this is probably where the savings and the profit could be.

You mentioned that you are trying to save money, where is the money going right now?
Storage, bandwidth, additional features, etc. Feel free to contact me and we can discuss co-lo, unmanaged, or managed. We have several options in the dedicated realm and I would be happy to go over the finances with you to see if it works for your needs. [email protected] |
