Guardians of the Galaxy II Opens May 5; Tix went on sale today.

When I was a kid, the premiere showing of Star Trek would sell out 1 or 2 days in advance, and that was a big thing.

Today, the new Guardians of the Galaxy went on sale today, and the first few shows are already sold out, even though the movie doesn't open for another 39 days.

I really, really wish I would have bought stock in Marvel and Disney 10-15 years ago. Congrats to Marvel and Disney. They are freakin' geniuses.

Just looking at that image shows how much CGI has progressed from the terrible first attempts such as Species. Its almost believable now ?

Just Disney is genius, as marvel was bankrupt before they were bought by disney . Tho what i find annoying, how Disney now have some kind of monopoly in fun bussiness. I mean, when i go to store, i see only brand stuff from disney and nobody else.

No that's not correct.

Marvel went up and down over the years and almost went bankrupt in the early 90's. Movies like BLADE and SPIDER MAN were successes but Marvel only saw a small percentage of those rewards.

In 2003 they got the idea to make their own movies under their own name, and to do cross-film stories like they did in the comics. They secured a shitload of financing (Half a Billing dollars or something like that) to make a bunch of movies, starting with Iron Man. That 1 film made half-a-billing dollars at the box office.

Marvel now full of cash when and bought back alot of the characters they had sold the rights to such as Thor, Hulk, etc.

When Disney bought Marvel in 2009, they were already super-rich with cash, and now, super-rich with licensed characters. Iron Man could reference Thor, could reference Guardians of the Galaxy, could reference Doctor Strange, etc etc. All of these characters and stories could be connected together, become fully realized movies for $200 Million each, and sold to the audience for almost a Billion dollars each.

So freaking cool.

True, but you know what? Kudos to them. Disney is ultra-smart. They provide good family-friendly entertainment and charge top-dollar for it, and people are happy to pay it.

Disney is also really cool in other ways. Disney owns Marvel, and Marvel owns franchises like X-Men (and Deadpool). Stories like Old Man Logan ("Logan") and Deadpool are too violent and adult for Disney. But instead of burying these, they license it out to groups like 20th Century Fox to make instead. This lets the movies be made and the stories be told, but with all the R-rated violence and boobies the fans want.

Now you know why I'm such a huge Marvel fan.

I boycott movies because of the amount of CO2 released during their production.

(Just kidding).
